We all F***ING forgot one IMO really great (and alas pretty unknown) game!!!!!
TERMINATOR - FUTURE SHOCK !!!
this game kicks doom''s ass!! (or was it doom2 that was out then?)
it had some nasty collision detection bugs, I suppose that''s what made the game not so popular... but it''s GREAT !
(once you got used to the bugs, your intuition will prevent you from doing things that let the errors occur.)
and was it fun to jump in such a car with a laser gun mounted onto it, or a hunter/killer flying vehicle just like in the future scenes of the terminator movies, and hunt your network opponents who are just by foot through the ruins of a postapocalyptic city heheh.
it''s "real 3D" with full up dna down view (not just 45° and distorted), before quake! but they cheated a bit. when you hit the "open door" key standing in front of a door outside a building, a new map gets loaded and you are inside the building then. I suppose the amount of polies / map would be too high for this engine, if the "outside" mao contained also all inside polygons of the buildings.
the athmosphere of that game is really great, really postapocalyptic, DARK and sinister. (midi music played through SB16 sucks. you''re better off having a SB32 installed, maybe GUS is also good. don''t get me wrong, if you don''t know this game. I love the SB16/pro midi sound in doom. but here, it sucks.)
you can get the game from abandonware sites. the game was made by bethesda softworks.
if anyone of you knows anything about BUGFIXES or other patches for this game, please et me know. I did not find any.
