Not only did I manage to Alt+Tab out of Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Lounge discussion thread!), but I managed to keep myself from Alt+Tabbing back in. We'll see if this incredible bout of self control lasts long enough to complete this Journal Land round-up. Oh and I'll be right under Irene when she passes over the Jersey shore so - wish me luck!! Be safe my fellow east coasters and seek shelter!

Here are your Journal Land entries from the period of 8/19 - 8/26

Splinter of Chaos' Blog - Splinter of Chaos implores you all to use vector math classes and gives an overview of why he feels this is better for your calculations and how to get a basic implementation going

New Journal Land scribes this week: ne0_kamen, and DaedalusK71!

Project Updates

  • Calculemus's Journal - breaking my rule of featuring new journal authors at the top only since calculemus1988 kicks off his journal with a game you can download and try out. Test! Test! Test!
  • Development of Vegetables at War - a Vegetables at War update that includes some shader fog effect code and a link to check out the game SuperMaximo93 made for the latest Ludum Dare 48hr compo.
  • Once a Bird - Demosthenes has a video update for Graveyard Shift that shows crypt exploration.
  • et1337 makes games logo+%20bullet.png - et1337 has a short video update showing off some physics and dynamic lighting
  • OddGames development journal logo+%20bullet.png - O-san has a small update on the type of character animations completed so far and a new screenshot of an equipped character
  • StarDust DevLog - KaRei has a few new screenshots of the Milky Way galaxy rendered in StarDust - they look pretty nice! He goes over what's there and what still needs to be implemented
  • /* Why you crying? */ - a quick update from JTippetts to introduce a new character model
    Game Dev Stuffs

    • New Old Things - Endurion halts forward progress just a bit to work on some already-existing elements to flesh them out some more as he continues to program his Commodore64 game
    • D Bits logo+%20bullet.png - Aldacron talks about overriding methods in D as he shares the minimal code needed to run his Dolce framework
    • __Homer__'s Journal - __Homer__ details the Bullet physics workaround he came up with to get around the limitation of kinetic bodies having no physics response forces so he could use them for his jousting game. Jousting game? Actually that sounds kinda cool.
    • Keeping up with yesterday logo+%20bullet.png - a_insomniac is looking to target multiple platforms with his latest project and is asking for tips and advice for developing outside Visual Studio to achieve this
    • The Realm of Trial logo+%20bullet.png - DecipherOne gives a heads up to an Extra Credits video that demonstrates using game mechanics to communicate an idea
    • The Bag of Holding - ApochPiQ's latest opinion piece "Threads are Cancer" talks about the continuously evolving parallelism in processor technology and how hardware is coming up short for large gains in speed these days, requiring software solutions to step up and take full advantage of the multi-core system to really get things moving. Problem: the current solution is not a good one.
      Other Stuffs

      • Wavesonics Pseudo-Random Journal Generator logo+%20bullet.png - we don't see much of benryves around these days but luckily Wavesonics is around to fill this section with some hardware building projects! His latest is a pressure sensor for his bed mattress that will let his alarm clock snooze but never shut off until he actually gets out of bed. I'd buy one.
