I haven't heard why yet from the publisher, but the new release dates for the remaining three GameDev.net Collection books are:
Design and Content Creation: A GameDev.net Collection by Drew Sikora and John Hattan (Paperback - Feb 24, 2009)
Beginning Game Programming: A GameDev.net Collection by Drew Sikora and John Hattan (Paperback - Feb 27, 2009)
Advanced Game Programming: A GameDev.net Collection by Drew Sikora and John Hattan (Paperback - Mar 17, 2009)
In other book news, we're working with Industry Broadcast to make some audio excerpts of the books for the website. Stay tuned for more on that.
No Wednesday Daily
This is my fault, Tiffany asked me last week to do the Daily for her today because she's been busy with Cave Story and film projects. I forgot to check in with her and see if she was still unable to post and therefore didn't remember to fill in for her. But, there really wasn't a whole lot of news for me to split up between today and tomorrow, so I'm just posting tomorrow.
New Resources
- Game Programming for Teens, 3E - The third edition of Maneesh Sethi's "strictly for beginners" BASIC programming book is out. Read a bit about it here.
- Alex Houdent - Alex Houdent from GlobZ explains why webgame Globulos is pinging over to DS
- K-Means Heuristic for General Purpose Binary Search Trees and Animated Data Sets - This article introduce a new heuristic for constructing binary search trees often used in image synthesis (games, ray-tracing etc.) and in many other fields. This heuristic is based upon the K-Means problem and gives an ideal tree for traversal algorithms. Moreover, the iterative nature of the construction algorithm make it perfect (fast and robust) for animated data sets which are very common in games and films.
