The Dailies are here to stay!

I know you all have gotten very attached to Mitten's Daily GDNet reports. The news here is purposely starved of any gaming-related announcement because we are, after all, a game development site, not a gaming site. That said, we're all gamers at heart and like to keep up on the latest development and trends going on in the gaming world. Through his wit and sarcasm Mittens has brought that news to us from a developer's standpoint, and it has been a great addition to or regular dry line-up of news items.

When Mittens first approached me with the idea, I mentioned that perhaps it would be best to not take on a heavy load of daily reports from the get-go, but he was determined to make it so and I'm very impressed at his efforts since late March, never missing a single day. When he told me he'd be stopping I was sent into a bit of a scramble figuring out what the hell to do, but Mittens continued to pull his weight and get a new system set up in time to replace him.

After this week of Promit filling in full-time, the dailies will rotate - each day of the week will be assigned to one author:

Monday - Ravuya
Tuesday - Promit
Wednesday - Tiffany
Thursday - Emmanuel
Friday - Mittens

Yes, you now have something extra to look forward to at the end of the week [smile]

apparently this was supposed to be a surprise for everyone next week by Mittens (and maybe Promit was in on it too), but no one ever told me so if you're reading this... surprise!! :P

Why it's so quiet around here otherwise

Any of you who happen to swing by for stuff other than my GDNet updates (I know a few are always interested in my stunt work projects) you may notice it's been rather quiet of late. While this is usually normal in me just not posting anything, in this case it's because I finally set up my own blog over at Blade Edge, where I'm posting all my personal stuff as well as video production and stuntwork. I'll be simul-posting any software stuff here and there, but everything else from now on will be over at the "new digs". Check it out and let me know what you think, even if it's just by voting in the poll.

  • 32 OpenMP traps for C++ developers - Since multi-core systems are spreading fast, the problem of parallel programming becomes more and more urgent. However, even the majority of experienced developers are new to this sphere. The existing compilers and code analyzers allow finding some bugs, which appear during parallel code development. However, many errors are not diagnosed. The article contains description of a number of errors, which lead to incorrect behavior of parallel programs created with OpenMP

  • Building of systems of automatic C/C++ code logging - Sometimes logging of an application's events is the only debugging method. The logging method's disadvantage is the large size of the code which you have to write manually to save the whole necessary information. The article touches upon the method allowing you to build a system of automatic logging of C/C++ code

  • Director 11 - We review Adobe's update to their high-end multimedia authoring tool and game engine.
