Just let it flow man
"Flow" is the almost trance-like state you get into when you're completely focused on something to the point where you're pretty much tuning everything out. Flow is really important when you're coding -- its incredibly hard to get anything done unless you're in a state of flow; which is why some da…

On smarmy rationalizations
I used to think that I had rather sophisticated taste in music. Most people probably think that about their tastes. And then I started learning guitar, and I came to realize that actually, most of the songs I liked were painfully unsophisticated.

And then I listed to a song that was, for the most p…

You can't always get what you want
I was walking through the plaza at school today, and there were various people outside campaigning for Student President. Which wouldn't really be noteworthy, except that some of them they were playing music. Which also wouldn't be noteworthy, except the song they were playing was "You Can't Always…

300

So I went and saw "300" last night. It was pretty damn awesome in an unapologetic war-movie sort of way. I think my friend Andy put it best: "That movie touched me in all my man parts." Meaning, you know, that it pushed the right buttons. Not that the movie molested him. At least I hope thats what …

Final thoughts from the GDC
I'm finally back from the GDC, so I figured I'd write a bit about the experience of the whole thing.

For the most part, it turned out rather well. I wasn't completely sure what to expect since this is the first GDC I've ever been to, but I wasn't disappointed, it was a good time.

Some background for…

San Francisco is not a land of magical slap fights
When I was original planning a trip to San Francisco, I got a lot of useful advice that more or less amounted to "LOL GAY PEOPLE LIVE THERE LOL", which gave me the impression that the most I really had to worry about was maybe a roaming gang of rather fancily dressed men calling me a "silly billy" …

Awkward Screen Names
Has anyone else noticed how unbelievably awkward it is to introduce yourself to people by your screen name? Especially when you have a really stupid one?

I was considering this today when I was meeting people at the GDC, and whenever it came time to introduce myself it would come out sounding more o…

First Impressions at the GDC
A lot of you who have never been to the GDC are probably reading our press coverage in order to get an idea what it's like. I'm kind of wondering that too, since this is the first time I've been. My first impression so far can pretty much be described as "OMG ZERG RUSH"; by which I of course mean "…

My language could totally beat up your language
For the past few months or so I've been trying to solve a problem that's been bugging me. That problem is -- how do you get things done 10x faster? By that I mean implementing features and solving bugs, not making the program itself execute 10 times faster. That might seem like an insoluble problem…

I need sleep
I've been working on putting the finishing touches on my four elements four entry, tentatively titled Call Of Booty (no, it's not that kind of game). Mostly just minor things, like writing in support for 3D sound and, um, enemies. Minor things ;). I suppose I should've started earlier, but I really…
