Terrible game ideas
I was reading tigsource and I saw mention of The Video Game Name Generator, which is quite possibly the coolest thing ever. Anyway, as a creative exercise I decided to generate a game idea for the first ten names I got out of it without filtering any of them. These are all pretty much... horrible,…

My head explode
Anyone know of any ultra secret flu remedies? I'm pretty sure my head is on the verge of exploding, and NyQuil is making me really fuzzy.

BTW, if I happen to die I want to be buried with my stuff. Not that I'm going to die from the flu, but just in general. You know, because it's my stuff.

also...
By the way, this is by no means new, but if you haven't played The Marriage you should check it out. It's pretty interesting.

I hate writing subject lines
I finally managed to get around to posting some GDC articles on experimental games and designers block. More to come soon. I kept the one on experimental gameplay sessions intentionally short because a lot of those games are best understood by playing them (click the links to them!). The other one …

Games with depth
Well, after being back from the GDC for a bit I've had a chance to digest it. If there was a common theme to the GDC this year, I think it was indie games really gaining credibility, and the recognition that we need to make games that are more than just fun, they need to have emotional and intellec…

Games as self exploration
Peter Molyneux said something really interesting during one of the panel sessions he was at. I can't find my notes at the moment, but the gist of what he was saying was this: One of the more important things a game can do for a player is allow them to learn more about themselves by playing the game…

GDCA
I just got back from the Game Developers Choice Awards. They were pretty decent as far as these things go, although listening to the 30th person say "no, thank you, general members of the [AUDIENCE/TEAM/DEVELOPER COMMUNITY]!" is mind numbing. If I ever win an award, the only person I'm going to tha…

GDC!
I'm at the GDC now. Things don't really get into swing until Wednesday, but so far it's been quite good.

The tutorials seem pretty interesting so far. I'm taking the Game Design Workshop, which in my opinion has been fantastic. One of the points they've really been driving home is their "MDA" model…

Sentimental value
I've been looking into buying a new(er) car recently, and I started getting this funny feeling -- I felt incredibly guilty about it. Me and my car have grown rather close over the years. I felt like I was abandoning a faithful old friend. Never mind that my old friend likes to not start at inopport…

Some thoughts on writing a 3D game engine in Pytho
Rav suggested I should talk about this a bit, so this one is for you, Rav.

I've been working on writing a game in Python for a bit now (for reference, a multiplayer first person shooter). For the most part, it just started out as an experiment. I started out thinking, "Huh, I wonder how far I could …
