Does anyone here remember text based games? I remember one was with Sherlock Holmes, and another one was about a Portuguese or Dutch Trader that got stranded in Japan...sorta like Shogun.
No graphics, just commands to be typed in, hoo boy
Hmm, how about Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis?
Broderbund''s War at Sea
Battlehawk 1942.
The Tex Murphy series of games
The orginal Alone in the Dark
Now that I think about it, there''s not that really many genres of games for the PC.
FPS- Quake, UT
Adventure- Journey into Imagination
RPG- Everquest, Anarchy Online
Flight/space Sims- IL2 Sturmovik, Independece War
Racing Sims- 4x4 Evo
God Sims- Black and White
Real Time STrategy- Kohan, Battle Realms
Turn Based Strategy- Civ III
Business Sims- Tycoon series
Diablo Clones- Diablo, duh, Throne of Blood
Sports Games- NHL 2002
The only games I can think of that didn''t fit a category was The Sims and Majestic.
So did I miss anything?

The world has achieved brilliance without wisdom, power without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. Ahhh, my favorite classics!
Hmm there''s Dragon Warrior, what more could you ask for? A cunning hero, a damsel in distress, and a great big dragon!
Then we have good old FF2, this was what really got me started in RPGs in general, I haven''t played it in a while, I''d like to buy an SNES copy, there''s one in the local mall, but I don''t have 50$ drop into that right now. The thing I remember most about that game was the in depth story line and just the length of the game, of course I''d probably fly through it now with no problem.
Following suite with everyone else FF7 that game was just great! the character models were inventive, I like it more than the more recent ones (don''t get me wrong, FF8 and 9 were good, still need to play 10) because it just takes so much time to do everything, very very involving, lots of side quests, and eye candy, and it''s nice not having to change discs every few hours. I mean it took me like 2 & 1/2 hours to get through disc one on FF8 and then another 3 or four to get through disc 2, I mean come on people!
Hmm Parsite Eve also ranks up there for me, I like the integration of real time battles with some standard FFish stuff mixed in.
I haven''t played many "really" old games, I''m about 19 and I got my first Atari after the NES came out. I had some fun with it though, good old pitfall and pacman. Come to think of it my dad dug out his old Telestar (I think that''s what it was called), it had PONG, SQUASH, and a few other games, including one with a gun believe it or not. the thing that I remember most was how you set the games up, it was with all analog switches and it ran on 8 (maybe 6) AA batteries. I got into game programing, when i was 15, I''m just now starting to really delve into this stuff (I have enough time and a good computer to work on!)

Drizzt: C64 = Commodore 64
Varelse: Man, I thought I was the only one who remembered Rescue at Fractalus! They made such a big deal about that game when it came out...and with good reason.
Ballblazer was so fun.
Hmmm...what others. Anyone here ever play this game where you had to fly a space craft and rendezvous with Halley''s Comet? I can''t remember the title...''The Halley Project'' or something like that?
As for text games...Leather Goddesses of Phobos, Hitch-hiker''s Guide to the Galaxy, the original Zork...man Infocom made some really kick ass games.
This makes me sound so old...but I''m only mind-20s...honest! I just started playing games when I was really young...

Bruce Lee - Great scrolling platform game. You could play single player (you would be Bruce), or two-player (one of you would play this huge sumo wrestler dude). There was a computer controlled Ninja character who tended to fly around and attack you, but he was easy to kill. Bruce''s special move was a flying side kick, which you accomplished by running and kicking. The sumo wrestler''s special move was to moo like a cow. Don''t ask me.
I always remember, whilst playing 2 player, Bruce would kick over that green Sumo man and he would just be lying on the floor with this "How could you do that to me look?" on his face before he died and faded away
One of the most memorable games I ever played on the computer (Atari 400,800,130XE) was a sword and sorcery single player game from Avalon Hill called Telengard. The graphics were good(back then, you can get better graphics on a watch now) and the storyline/plot was outstanding. I think a vast majority of todays games rely too much on bells and whistles while leaving the interface and storylines somewhat bleak(mho).
