I''ve been looking for a good reference on Fourier/Wavelet analysis. Does anyone have a recommendation? I''m looking for something that covers the basic principles well, and builds on them with discussions of applications. Ie. mp3, jpeg, . . compression . . . I''m not really looking for algorythm references, but actual math literature including proofs. I''d greatly appreciate some recommendations. Thanks.

In my digital image processing class we used "Digital Image Processing" by Rafael Gonzalez. It includes the Fourier transformation, image compression, image enhancement, object extraction, edge-detection and color-image processing. It is not merely a book of algorithms, but rather an involved discussion of the mathematics behind these topics. It is quite advanced and requires knowledge of calculus, linear algebra and probability theory. Unfortunately, it does not include the wavelet transformation. Nonetheless, it is a very good book.
