It's actually terrifying how stupid people are being regarding this. He's shown the birth certificate, and there are even clippings from when his grandmother(?) put his birth in the newspaper. The flat out refusal to accept these facts by some members of the American public is frightening; and I do wonder if, as others have said, this is just a thin veneer for racism. I mean, proof of legitimacy of nationality doesn't get much more explicit than that.
These weak character-assassinations really undermine the credibility of the Republicans. Ad-hominem is fine when the person is actually rubbish (like, a blatant racist or homophobe or whatever), but unfounded claims that he's a non-American Islamo-Terrorist who hates freedom/democracy/the whites is just a very weak attempt to rally the Jingos around a lie.

They've actually "addressed" this by saying that it's a common tactic for illegal immigrants to try to grant their children citizenship status by having them born in mexico and sending a birth notice to the US newspapers to start a paper trail.
...
Nevermind the fact that his mom was a US citizen at the time and would have no need to do this. But yeah, the "born in kenya and mailed birth notice to USA to cover up the fact that he was born there" theory makes complete sense... if you're insane.
BTW apparently they're clamoring about his kindergarten records now too. Has any president ever been forced to show kindergarten records? Why would we even care?

Same reason people called President Bush .. Bush.
Same reason people called President Clinton .. well ... Clinton.

are they doing this in congress? Isn't there a house speaker who can say "shut the hell up, we're here to talk politics, not entertain redundancies"?

P.S. I was hoping that morons like that only congregated in the South. That YouTube makes me sad for my country.

So why is this suddenly becoming an issue again? Why are there so many people who suddenly, beyond all rational thought, believe that Obama is an illegal Kenyan immigrant?
For a lot of the birthers, it seems the "he's an immigrant" bit is really just code for "he's strange and foreign," which is code for "black," coupled with the handful of crazies who genuinely believe it.

They're doubting the legitimacy of the commander-in-chief during a time of war? They are clearly giving aid and comfort to the enemy during a time of war and making the troops cry. The troops! The troops! Won't someone think of the troops? Time of war! Time of war! Troops! Troops of War!
That's what you'd be hearing if this was being done to President McCain. As it is, if you got sick of Bush being referred to as the commander-in-chief more often than as president, the good news is you won't be hearing that phrase again until we get another Republican president.
