So I just bought an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 --all the reviews I've seen have been really favorable, and it's got more than the number of features I need. Does anyone have any experience with this particular board?
Demo'd it a few times in various shops. Liked the action, wasn't a fan of the knobs. THe amount is great, they weren't as responsive as I wanted them to be. Salesman said it was because it was a floor model...but all the knobs? Tried it again in a different shop and I didn't notice the knobs being a problem. I don't know if my perception of them had simply changed or what but it seemed fine, then again this one wasn't hooked up to any synths so I was just looking at the controller data.

But that's just knobs. The thing felt great, and is priced well for a full range non-synth weighted board.

I have heard mixed reviews on the Enigma software you have to use, but I never got that far into it.

I'm sure you'll get it to do whatever you need no matter what, though. M-Audio has been putting a lot more money into their gear now with money from Digidesign!

Hey there Blaise!

A few of my friends use the keystation 88 and swear by it. One is a live musician who performs electronic music with his laptop and the other makes huge filmscore style tracks with it...to very good effect! I think that speaks of its versatility. Beyond that, I can't say much about it...hopefully that will all change as I will be getting one very soon. Feel free to let us know how it handles.
I own one. I love it. The only thing I don't like about it was the large quantity of knobs... I don't need so many.... The action is very nice and all together is wonderful to play on.
BRING BACK THE BLACK (or at least something darker)
Good, I'm glad to hear so much positive feedback! It should arrive in about a week, so when it does, I'll let y'all know how it handles for me. Thanks!

If you're doing any heavy sequencing, take the time to assign those knobs to your favorite functions like expression, prog change, vol, mod, sample select, ADSR, or even screensets via Logic's environment or key commands window. It's often more natural to be able to reach up and twist a knob to adjust a parameter rather than reach for the mouse or keyboard.

It's a bit of setup at first, but will really help your workflow down the road.
