If you''re downloading the C++ only SDK, then you probably need to download the C++ docs as well. Just download the SDK first and find out. The full SDK includes both.

There''s no reason to keep the old DX7 stuff lying around. In fact, the DX8 setup recommends that you uninstall it first. Go to Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.

Also, here''s a tip for everyone - go to download.com and look for a program called Download Accelerator. You won''t be sorry.
How do you use Direct x? Do you just include the headers (I'm assuming there are some) in your code? Or do you have to link to the components you are trying to use? I'm confused!!

Also, can you use the API with MingW32? I have Dev-C++ and I just want to know in case I ever try DX!!

Well, I guess dragging my feet worked well enough. Been putting off learning DirectX until I got to the point of really needing it so now I can just learn 8.0 instead.

I didn''t mean to imply the the msdn subscription was the only way to get the dx8 CD...

To use DirectX you include the proper header file, add the corresponding .lib file to your project, add a bunch of code and compile...

You can add .lib files on the ''file view'' tab, just like .h & .cpp files. i guess the common thing to do is add a "Lib" folder and "Debug" & "Release" sub folders and put the corresponding .libs in there. (you can disclude a folder from a build under the project setting...)
- The trade-off between price and quality does not exist in Japan. Rather, the idea that high quality brings on cost reduction is widely accepted.-- Tajima & Matsubara
I know a guy who has an MSDN universal subscription (only $999 when you purchase VS6.0 enterprise edition for $999 ).

He said he was downloading it because the CD is delayed do to veterans day.

Ill probably be done downloading by the time he gets his CD then =)

Im at 4.0MB out of 137 so far =)

Thanks,
Etnu

Sometimes I think I know what I really don''t, but then again usually I do know what I don''t, but just don''t realize it, maybe its because I am so young, but then again it could be because I am insane.
