Well.. some good advice would be.. if you don''t know, just ask.
The question maybe asked several times such as "How to I make a _____ RPG clone", but take it as a curiousity on how the game was created and give them a direction such as "learn a programming language and D3D or opengl and prepare for a countless number of sleepless nights".
.................
I like to find out stuff on my own, but there are times when I''m stuck on coding something and I need some advice.. and this board is full of people that are willing to help out.
.................
The problem is some ppl reading the message might think of it as a simple basic dumb thing because that person already knows the answer to the problem. "GOSH THIS GUY IS STUPID" or "GEEZ PPL NEED TO THINK BEFORE POSTING" are the worst messages you can give anyone that is stuck on a project.. because the person that posted the question probably just does not know the answer.
Think before posting...

So are you saying that an educated person is someone who has everyone else solve their problems for them, rather than solving them on his/her own?

Let me rephrase that:
The mark of an educated person is not that they can solve *all* problems encountered, but that they know where to go to find the answers to the ones that they can't.
Better?

Hmm. the thing that annoys me most about the boards are the people who say things like ''how can i program directx'' or whatever - without reading the FAQ or reading any of the hundreds of documents on this and other sites.
I assume that when the other posters here say people should read the manual before posting, they also mean other pertinent articles found on the net.

That annoys the crap otu of me too, like how do I program a 3d engine.

People who post here are lost. They come here to find answers for their questions. Some ask general questions and others ask descriptive questions. Either way, it''s still a questions and should be answered. Just because you''ve been around for a while and know the ropes doesn''t mean you have to rub it in a newbies face.
Todays way of gaining information is at a touch of a button, while yours was strictly through books. If you were just starting off you''d try to get information any way you could.
Now let me ask this question. Is it easier to search and search through books for your answer, or to ask the question and get an emidiate answer? Hmmmmmm...
I''m sure most of the people who ''seem'' to make posts without thinking are trying to find the easy answer, but I''m sure they''ve done lots a research beforehand and then came here. It''s just plain stupid to assume they come here immidiatly after they hit a snag.

You know, Einstien I believe said something to the effect of "Why should I memorize my phone number when I can find it in the book?".
The same philosophy holds true here, "Why should I bang my head against a wall for hours to solve a problem that someone here already knows the solution to?"
because once the experienced guys (and no--I'm not talking about myself) knows they're nothing more than phone directories, they will leave.

Yeah, sure. It may be a pain to answer the same question millions of times. That's where I fault the posters. They should at least research the board first before posting the problem.

sure. but asking someone else should never come very early in the process, or else poeple will get tired, and leave.
I know I wouldn't want that, as I've learned a lot of things from the GD message fora, and I still am. there's nothing wrong in posing newbie, or even clueless, questions, but don't let it be the first thing you do.
