A separate Christmas minidemo sounds cool. I've got a great idea for an awsome effect (if it actually works that is[wink]), but it looks like the theme for the contest is probably going to be something to do with cities which unfortunately has nothing in common with it. However...it fits in perfectly with a Christmas theme.[grin]

Since not everybody likes games, how about a winamp plugin demo in OpenGL contest.

IMHO more people enjoy games rather than enjoying winamp.

As for the starting date Q, I'm not sure we should wait for everyone having free time, because it's very unlikely we'll ever find a date that will be OK to everyone. Many events happen, be it at the uni, at work, at home... all in all there are always reasons (excuses?) to move the starting date. jm2c

Yeah, Big Januari Contest and a tiny Christmas one sounds fine to me!
I woudln't mind the winamp one aslong as we had the same base code to startwith. You could make a city if you like, only stuff in it moves to the rythum of music.

*shrug* Could be cool.
Plugin sounds great. I would personaly prefer WMP10 plugin but winamp would also be OK... Combining this with futuristic city can also get some nice results. I just hope we don't get to many dancing houses.
You should never let your fears become the boundaries of your dreams.
I'm actually not that hot on the winamp project. It means that everyone will be using the same basecode, which i think is kinda boring.

I do like the idea that we will be getting musical input tho; many dancing thingys...

Idea:
Winamp for the christmas mini contest; many dancing christmasy thingies dancing to christmas carols!
So if you went for the Winamp plugin idea, where should we get the base code? Have you seen any examples? Maybe we could code review the base code and hand it off to Jeff. That is if you are up to the idea...

How so? I figure the base code would just create the window and maybe get the fourier data. Seems to me the result would be totaly up to the user.
See there's a difference right there. To optimize speed I wouldn't even use the fourier (FFT). I'd start with the stream in applitude over time format. Anything goes after that...
