I think in a smaller contest starting with basecode would be ok since time is an issue. In a larger contets, I think we should leave things failry open; its fun to see how different, implementations of similar things, can be.

You are right. For other contests the only restriction is normally using OpenGL. For this case if the theme happens to be a plugin, a code base to start from seems appropriate.

Since it looks like this thread is dying I think its time to finalize our recommendations and propose them to nehe.

I'll see if I can get around to a summary later today. Once I do, I think we should go through a series of "post any serious objections you may have" till we have a finalized proposal.

Once that is all over with...we code!!!
I found some example winamp plugin source in the chance that it becomes the theme. http://www.oddsock.org/tools/dosomething/

It would be nice if we had a themes selection page that everybody could vote on for a couple weeks.

I think we need a little advertising before starting the contest. I'd like to see a lot of entries instead of just 3.

What kind of voting method did you have in mind?
I was thinking just a list of all the themes with a vote link. At the end, we just count all the clicks and filter based on unique IP (so that everybody can only vote once).

I don't think anybody here is tricky enough to use IP spoofing over HTTP. So the numbers should be ok.

Kuel; sounds good!

Should I still do the summary as a starting point?
Affirmative. We got to get this summary/voting page out stat. The thread is dying from thought loss.

Will do; are you doing the voting page?
I could do one, but it would be off-site and I don't think that's fair to everyone else.

It looks like GameDev hosts ASP pages.

I don't have access to the access logs, so that makes coding an IP filtering page a little hard. I think Jeff can manage doing a page based from the list fairly easily.
