I think there was a contest like the one that tgraupmann suggestes on gamedev.net some time ago.
I think the contest Idee is good, but not for NeHe's site.
This site don't focus on game development, but OpenGl programming. Therefor the contest should be OpenGL programming, not documentwriting.

On gamedev.net it would be a good contest suggestion.

Endre
I would not enter such a contest, I only write the documentation when I have to, not for fun :)

Yeah I doubted you would be interested in documentation. Although somebody always has to do it.

Well that leaves Game Editing Tools. Part of any game requires tools for model editors, character animators, content editors (for inserting text into the game), game event trigger editors, and level designers.

How about a contest centered around game editing tools?

Usually that's the first thing they let newbie programmers do in the game industry...

Well tgraupmann you are suggesting good things for people work on who are looking to get a job. The only problem is that is not what I see NeHe contests being here for. I think they are here to allow us to make the scenes that make people say "ohhh, ahhhh."

I could be totaly wrong on this, it's just my view.
Well you could make a demo creation suite, much like the proggies used by other demo sceners, like "werkkzug" I think it's called.

Or what about who can make the coolest OGL based GUI. I think Sonique2 has a really really sick GUI, I wish more games GUI's looked so smooth and nice.

Either way I want to make a demo, not anything else.

I can see the fnords.

Heya! I've been away from this forum for a long time and i wondered what's been going on here, and if there where any new contests coming up.

I quickly read the thread and i like the modern city idea. Also a fantasy (not a specific movie or game, as long as there are some elves, trolls or demons in it it's ok) theme would be nice.
The game- or movie-specific themes probably won't work because of copyright.

Also i'd like a long timeline as i am pretty busy with college, as most of the other entrants.

Since not everybody likes games, how about a winamp plugin demo in OpenGL contest.

Nehe could provide the base code that lets you draw OpenGL based on input from an audio stream and YOU are free to make the rest.

Whoever does the best visualization wins. And you can share your new plugin with your Winamp friends (Mom&Dad).

I wouldn't like the idea of the December 1st starting date. That's when I (and many other students) should start revising for the December exams. =(

Howbout the middle of November? That sounds fine to me ..
Would anyone ojbect to a january contest? We could do a christmas mini contest while planning this one (as suggusted by nehe).
Yeah starting after newyears would be best for me.
