Thanks for the positive replies - a demo is a month or two away though...

ghem4: Actually I know some HTML, and I agree. I''m using a FTP client to upload, and wrote the original of my homepage with vi. I just decided to try out these do-all html editors. What blows me away is not knowing what they do, and what they don''t do, cause it''s hidden for the most part.

Shadowdancer: I converted back, but can''t see ''em on my laptop as .jpg files. Sooo they''re back to .gif. I''ll try again later...
very nice

ghem4, so you don''t suggest using frontpoge for making websites? i''m about to make mine, but was planning on using frontpage. also, you guys have/make any good graphical applets for your sites? i wanted to make a cool toolbar as an applet, but don''t know how possible it would be to do it.

a2k - I can''t speak against Frontpage specificly, because I haven''t used it heavily. I learned to stay away from WYSIWYG editors in general a while ago. They tend to change the way your page looks when they generate code, especially if you''re using java-script. Some are really bad with tables.
a2k: I''d say use it, either FrontPage or Composer at least for the initial (and quick) setup of a page. But don''t depend on it being 100% correct. View the actual HTML code and verify it''s doing what you think. Also test your web with a different PC so''s you don''t link your own C:disk like I did. Although FrontPage will publish it for you, I like using a FTP client to upload, so I can see what''s actually on the server. Good luck...
thanks, guys. i was actually gonna use frontpage like you said, just for initial design, but if i need to, i''ll tweak the html. (i don''t know much about html, just the tags and stuff, but no experience). we''ll see how it turns out.

but, i want cool menus! but i know you can''t do that in html. how do you do it? flash? java applets?

Cool menus?

Your probably talking about DHTML. I used to learn HTML by finding site I liked then just ripping off their source code. Not that this feature is Browser 4.x+

that is one awesome looking project. best of luck.

Yep, the cool looking menus are usually done in DHTML. It uses a combination of java-script, CSS, and Html.

Be prepared for a lot of work if you want to learn it, though. Depending on how extensively you use it in the site, the code can be a few hundred lines long (300 or more easily). If all you want to do is the menus or a few image roll-overs, it won't be that long, though.

The biggest problem is how Frontpage makes a page look in Netscape or NON-MS browsers. AND layout doesn''t always come out like it previews it. Definitely you will want to hand code the details to make it all work, but sometimes the WYSIWYG editors can be a good start for a novice.
