Here these words vilifiers and pretenders, please let me die in solitude...
sorry, im new to this forum.. isometric contest? is this just for COMPLETED games? or engines too? with a map demonstrating some cool effects etc?
Here's a question for the staff:
Are already completed shareware-level games the type you're looking for? Of course, we own them, so copyright is not a problem. Or do you want the half-baked amateur type?
You are all toast baby. Bow to the might of my M4D 5Ki11Z, for I am the L337357 of them 4LL!!
(Just trash talking, folks. I don't usually type like that!)

Hey, I was wondering what specifically they wanted. My game uses a hexagonal map and is of the type just like Civ2 (but with hexes instead of iso tiles), and I was wondering how much of a full game like that do you want?
What I have so far is the map rendering, multiple layers, units with unit movements, settlers making cities, combat, mouse to hex coordinates and using the mouse to move units, select units, select cities and open the city management screen and has new unit production.
I have also implemented a very advanced fog of war system, and unexplored territory, the whole map is black just like in civ, and each player has there own version of map, like if you explore an area and then move away, then that part of the map you can no longer see is shrouded by the fog of war, and if another player comes into that area and makes a city or changes the terrain type, you wont know it. You will not see a city there and you will still see the old terrain, that is until you go back to the area and can directly see it again, and then you will see all the new changes.
I also have a mini-map implemented (which is extremely slow, I need to improve it alot), and I also have sound affects put in and a my biggest accomplishment is a totally kick ass windows style user interface (which I will not release the code for it).
But all of this is probably overkill for just an example in for a book, and most of it doesnt really have a lot to do with "tiles." So should I make slimmed down version? Are there any particular things you want included and others you dont?
So let us know what things you would really like to see, thanks.

From all this testeron over here, can I conclude that this compo is going to be great!?!?
I got a pretty damn big boot, hehe, so you better watch your ass. JJ hehe.
Actually you guys still have a chance for your source code because I dont think I will be releasing much of that, mine is just to good to give away for free

I'm the first to admit that most of my source code is unreadable. I don't think I'll submit the public to that type of mess.
The .EXE ends up being pretty darn good though! See you in the book!

I''m definately gonna give it a go, although I''m working full time until September then start my final year at Uni so will be real busy from then.
Not sure what I''m gonna be doing yet though, apart from I''ll be using Visual C++ 6 w/DirectDraw/3D maybe OpenGL & MFC.
I''ll be putting my web site up soon so people can follow my progress on there. The site is also gonna have loads of tutorials written by me on programming C/C++, WIN32, DirectX, OpenGL, MFC, Java, HTML, java-script and more.
I''ll post the URL when the site is up and running - email me if you want more info or would like to help.
Good Luck!
