Now what happens if you make that secondary xp primary xp, and get rid of primary XP?
Skill Advancement based on learning.
(add defensive abilities to that and your character doesn''t really get "stronger", just "better able to defend him/herself against attacks of known opponents. )
Which seems like a very promising concept.
( is this what you''ve done, Garath? )

What's with stats? (RPG)
It's only funny 'till someone gets hurt. And then it's just hilarious.Unless it's you.
Actually, the only thing it''s missing is overall improvement, but that might be what you want.....either way, it is a very good idea, and would be so simple to implement (read: why haven''t "professional" game developers done this yet?)

I think "professional" developers are bound by contracts and budgets to make something they know will sell, instead of being inventive. It''s up to us to make something that''s new and refreshing, so they can steal it and make it profitable

At least you will have the satisfaction of being able to say "I came up with that" and maybe have a working game somewhere on your HDD. . Maybe you could be a bitch like Hasbeen and patent it

Yeah, maybe I will think of something really cool, patent it, not tell anybody I patented it, let it slip to Assbro, and then when they steal it, I'll sue their candy asses for everything they got!

Now that is not such a bad idea... just make sure that they think they are going to revolutionise the industry with it . Another thing: Name your company "Games.com" and then sue Hasbeen for sitting on it

Everytime I think I''ve come up with a good idea lately it ends up having no benefits over the current system used in games so excuse me if I don''t say much. And try not to degrade this into a hasbro b****-fest because there''s another post for that already
And on another note I still think that the coolest thing possible to do with an RPG is not to focus on stats but instead on puzzles, because Deus Ex is an absolutely brilliant example of this, I love the game the more I play it - the only game worthy of best RPG of 2000 - diablo 2 should go home cause it''s just everything the original was + a few extras, the same way that Tiberian Sun was hopeless, and I already played Diablo to death and I don''t need a sequel that plays exactly the same.
And Greg Vederman is a wierd pervert anyway who should be punished by Jenna Jameson wearing a.....(for all those PC Gamer readers out there)

I disagree with the way you portray Diablo II.. I enjoyed the fast paced action that they put in an RPG! That hasn''t been done before (not that I can think of). Truly, Diablo II is mainly the original plus a lot of Eye Candy and Ear Candy, but I still think it plays a lot better than the original... I haven''t played Deus Ex (I have no money after buying Diablo II ).
Puzzle solving is definitely something I want to see in RPG''s, I don''t want Click''n''Kill or Slash''n''hack to take over my favourite genre. What is needed is a little more depth in story, combined with non linear plot (ie, interactive) and stat''s should be hidden in some kind of different way. Skill based advancement is definitely what I would use. Basically, you use a skill, you get more adept at it, once you hit a certain level - you train it (at some training place), so it is actually more like the way it needs to happen in real life...
''nuff ranting

Repeat after me:
quote:
Diablo is not an RPG.
Diablo is NOT an RPG.
Diablo is NOT an RPG.
Diablo ( and necessarily its successor Diablo 2 ) is an action game with roleplaying elements. There''s no story to speak of, there''s no real interaction with the world or NPCs.
However, Maitrek is right, the emphasis should move from combat to other things, in those games that reserve the right to call themselves RPGs (of which DiabloII is a primary offender. )

Then why does it say it on the box? I agree that it is a CPG, but I am only iterating what others are saying... Diablo II is more of an RPG than any other I have played (since my XT games of Phantasie, Phantasie III and Wizards Crown )
