Hybrid heaven (cool story, bad execution)

Vagrant story (amazing plot, brilliant story, (MGS meets FF) but bad execution)

i am also loving the Shenmue series (just wished ryo didnt ''only'' talk to those fit girls)

I''d have to say that Planscape Torment definatly has the best storyline of any game I''ve played.

Coming a close second is Septerra Core. Not the greatest of games by any means, but the story really kept me interested through all the boring fights.

I''m playing that right now. The story is moderately interesting so far -some great ideas- but the game design is horrible, and the lack of music really damages the atmosphere, which could otherwise be great. They should''ve let me design it .

Hmm, I''d have to say

Final Fantasy VII -- I just loved everything about this game .. the story line is amazing.

Metal Gear Solid 2 (sons of liberty) -- This game blew my mind too. I thought it had a fantastic story, and the ending really makes you think ..
No one remembers Betrayal at Krondor from Sierra? Even though the main plot was linear, I remember playing it through over 5 times, just because of the great storytelling and interesting characters.

Hint: The game is freeware nowadays and available from here!
I hear ya, MF - Betrayal at Krondor comes a close 2nd after Planescape Torment in my book. The idea of changing between two parties from chapter to chapter is brilliant.

Day of the Tentacle
Maniac Mansion

ALL of the old Lucas Arts (and even Sierra Games - anything -Quest)

Practically IMPOSSIBLE to beat any of them without help and extremely interesting storylines, but you don''t WANT to play them again because you just spent 6 years beating it the first time. Then you go on to, say, Full Throttle and don''t have enough bunnies to send across the f*cking minefield.

Anways, I haven''t the money to buy any of the games mentioned above, but I did download ''The Last Rose in a Desert Garden'' - we''ll see if it runs.

HAHAHA That is soooo true for Full throttle!!! The minefield part :D gotta love the save/resume options

I think The King''s Quest were pretty dumb ... 5 and 6 were ok tho, but the rest was BLAH

But I''d have to agree with you on the Hero''s Quest (renamed to Quest for glory, I think because some board game got the same name, with more financial power than Sierra) was the best game I played, not for storyline but for gameplay. I am still expecting the next Quest for Glory 6, but nowadays it is surpassed by avid RPG''s such as Baldur''s gate or Diablo (can it be called an rpg? lol) or Everquest... Linear storied RPG''s just dont cut it for PC no more, to my sadness.

Xenogears. Surprised it wasn''t mentioned...
Xenogears = best storyline ever
Final Fantasy III had the best story line of every single game ive played. I liked it because it was so original but it was linear (its only problem)
