''''I am starting to make a game but i need a realy good guid to help me get started. I would like to know were to get basic game codes for a tetris clone and a pong game in directX?
Can any one help ''''
This is a previous post of his. Quite a leap isnt it? Lets see, he is building his own O/S, voice recog, a fully living world, with a "100% interactive environment going any were doing any thing you want and also self expanding" (his words), then posts:
''I dont see why you gues think it is so complex''
Look, Im not going to flame you (well, any more), and would like to see some of the previous games you have made. I would be interested in how your cameras work and so forth. Also, how much code have you written so far? Have you got the engine working yet?
You know, when you finish your voice recog system you could sell it to ''Dragon naturally speaking''. They have been trying to develop this for years, and still dont have practical product. And you could sell your OS to Microsoft. Hey, this will be a money maker!
what do you think about this idea
HAH! You have got to be kidding me!!!! There is seriously a load of unnecessary stuff in there. The idea itself isn''t bad, but indeed, it isn''t original. The main problem is the amount of detail(as sandman said), it''s incredible. The fact is that the amount of detail is insanely high, why would you want to keep track of every single seed in the game? It''s much easier to calculate for a group of trees at the beginning of the time where the trees should mainly grow(usually spring), and then randomly determine by how much that group of trees has grown. A player doesn''t need or want to see seeds falling down, so you should be able to loose a lot of time and memory consuming things by applying tricks like that. Calculate things every other game day or so, and don''t do it when it isn''t necessary. If it isn''t necessary for an NPC to go to work, because there is nobody in the city to witness it, why make him go to work and spend extra time on it?
I think that kingpinzs has a lot to learn about what is and isn''t possible, and what is feasible(no offense).
Also, a relatively off-topic remark: Kingpinzs, how do you expect to be able to program without generating an incredible amount of syntax errors. No offense, but having dyslexia doesn''t exactly improve the quality of the code you can type....

As pointed out by several posts here, I think, kingpinzs, you''ll gonna have to drop some of your ideas. As boolean says, voice recognition might be a bit to far. And think about it, what is the fun in having to say "forward" hundreds of times? Also the OS-part is probably best to skip: you''d need to make your own memory control, file access, internet modules, DirectX, your own programming language (unless you want to do everything in ASM) and many others...
Not that it isn''t a good idea, but it might simply be too much you want to accomplish. Although you might want to spend years and years of time, after a while you''re going to get bored, and never finish the game at all. As said before, break down the game into simple part, like 3D-engine, level creation etc and work them out one by one.
Now a message for everybody: stop wasting time saying it can''t be done. I thought programmers liked a challenge. Well, -NEWSFLASH- this is one. Somebody with an idea pops up, and everybody quits because they think it''s too difficult. STOP CHICKENING, START PROGRAMMING! Because my c++ and ASM are a bit rusty, I can''t post some code, but I guess somebody out there can...

That''s *hardly* the biggest problem here. ATM I teach CS at a 2ndary high (equiv. of) and I have one student with *severe* dyslexia - this guy is successfully creating his own tools to deal with his handicap, using VB and some components (a CPen for scanning text for instance). He''s actually on the verge of going commercial with it. His dyslexia is one of the worst I''ve seen, he can barely read and his spelling is out of this world.
Since the tools of a coder are very good at spotting errors of this type, that probably sorts itself out.
Panzooka... SHUT UP! OMG, your spelling is worse than KingPinz! I have thought about doing a game like this. Obviosly there will have to be some limitations, there are even limitations in this real world we all live in. Like I cannot fly to Taco Bell, I must get in my beater truck and drive there myself. Panzooka, the fact that you are getting so worked up and rude, leads me to believe to posess no more talent than our creative dreamer you''re so quick to debuke. I know I would love to play a game have as creative as this one, and I know you probably would as well. You never know, he could be the one to make it, so instead of crushing his determination and self respect, why don''t you give him a word of encouragement and offer up some advice. I promise you, it won''t hurt a bit!
KingPin, I wish you the best of luck! If you''d like any ideas or some *polite* constructive critism just let me know.
Just Smile and Nod...

I AM an Army of One... I just have 10,000 other Armies of One to back me up!
ah_bk88 I would like some ideas or some *polite* constructive critism. I am getting things together but I am not sure if this game is going to be to complicated. Becuaes the towns are going to be made by the player or the npc''s. For the player I am going to put in a basic CAD programe. YOu know the one''s that fit on a floppy. Also the trees will grow only so many game loads that happens every so many game weeks. becuase in real life you cant see plantes grow. so that way it wont take up cpu time but every so many loads will be slow. There will only be basic physics to keep things on the ground and in the air like there spous to be.
I dont have much of a story line. But I was thinking of ether doing it as Adam and Eve or as A time travler to fix problems with our world now days by changing the past.

as i said, this thread need to be closed, there are more flames than serious post.
kingpinz have learned that his idea is impossible, so u people should stop flaming hi''s idea now
and my spelling. i am chinese-australian and only lived in australia for nearly 4 years. i dont care if people flame my grammar and spelling, but i will correct errors if i am about to post something "big" like this thread.
and i dont think my post are offensive. stat one thing i said that is offensive.

I am honestly glad to see you''ve decided to design a game system that is easier to work on. If I may suggest something now, you mentioned including a CAD program in it. It might be easier to simply add support for 3D file formats thats are widely used(Milkshape format comes to mind). This way your audience has a widely used format they can exploit that is already free. This means less work for you as well as you won''t need to necesarily create as many tools from scratch and go through the trouble of debugging or anything of the sort.

this is not bad at all just for fun just like games should be.
i seriously almost cried from a strange mix of emotions. like when a little kid does something so cute you fight back tears.
then i read he was 22 and was really confused.
panzooka:
why should this thread be locked?
