Remember that the big focus in this demo (i think) are on run-time algorithms. For example lets say someone makes a demo with massive artwork but the most complex this in the demo is the skeletal animation. That guys would loose out to someone who generated a 3d fractal or something a little more complex - soft shadows for example are a nice touch

I disagree,... watching a cube throwing your super-duper-high-tech soft shadows on a sphere for a minute or two isn''t going to impress anyone.... like with any demo competition it''s about creating a certain atmosphere, not showing a 60 second tech-demo.....

This is my first ever demo and im not going for stunning effects, im going for unusual effects - things that I dont think anyone else has done before. I could be wrong about some of em of course!

Anyone know if VB is allowed, as the runtimes themselves take up over 500kb? Or do only the extra runtimes (other than the standard ones like MSVBVM60.DLL or whatever) count towards the 500kb limit?

I wont be entering this contest.. Im going to hold out for the LOTR:TTT contest. Ive got a nice engine framework up and running for which to use for it, but it really needs more than 500k to work with.

I was going to enter it into this contest, but even without producing any real content for the demo and just using my test data, Im already over the size limit.

I decided not to do an effects demo, but rather a demo with a story and deep meaning. Here''s a screenshot from early development:

That will be my first ever participation on this contest. Because of my basic knowledege, I cannot create complex model but only triangle, cubes, quads and some effects. My subject will be more abstract and I am undecided on the name. I''ll use a modified code application based on Lesson 1.

Well. This bites. My HD crashed (had to take it back to the shop) so my demo is gonna be a bit short since I don''t have time to finish it. It coudn''t happend at worst time...

You''re fortunate that this is only a contest...i was working on a project for school (It was a marketing course and we had to design a product...so naturally a game) and my hard drive crashed and took everything with it except my month old back up So after about a week of missed school i finally recovered everything. My condolences - "to air is human...to really mess up requires a computer"
One week left...how is the demo writing comming?
Yay ...... just got my cubic splines working (ooo-errr misus!).

I feel amazinly proud that I managed to do it. My maths lets me down the most. So now I can actualy get some decent demo stuff done as I can use it to do a nice smooth camera movement along preset paths! Yay!

So my demos coming along nicely so far.
