Your art - let's see it!
@ahw: I didn´t really have any typically "gecko" pieces in mind, b/w is just what´s most natural to me at the moment.. I´m trying to get that right before I start with color stuff for real. I´ve been told that I should use the whole value range instead of just the bit I´m using now, but once a piece is starting to look promising I usually get too careful with it.
@TechnoHydra: I did play around with that retro-photo look briefly (mostly because of a few really cool pieces I saw on another board), I think it´s somewhere further back in this thread. These now are just plain b/w things, I guess the feel comes more from the subject than from the style or technique. And yes, I have a wacom (the standard intuos A6) - you should be able to get them in any better computer hardware store (and get yourself an intuos right away, the graphires are not bad but not as good as they should be, for starters they are ok but I think it doesn´t hurt to think positive and get the better model right away - especially those new 1mm pressure tips are rather cool).

Yeah, same problem for me, once I am finished with the black and white (or grey shades, depending on whether I go for ink or pencil) I just dont really want to destroy it with a bad colouring.
This is especially hard when I use too much shading with pencils.
So those days, I am trying to go at it oil-painting style. I just do a light lineout, sometimes I dont even bother, and try to work a bit with colours (consequently to using very often B&W, I am/was crap at using colours).
Here is a little example I came up with in 10 minutes with Photoshop and a mouse at school (I posted a lengthier explanation in a different thread , but I think it got ignored :-/ )

Oi...
Here''s a couple of my first attempts at using Painter (Painter Classic, just what came with my tablet). I''ve found it pretty intuitive and relatively easy to apply traditional techniques to the program.
Any input would be appreciated!

Well, it''s hard to criticize when your work looks so cool, but I''ll give it a try
The first one, I enjoy the pose and the colours, really interesting and strong. The colours just go so well with the dark and moody look of your guy.
I agree with Hase that it doesnt look like your typical Painter look, which is quite nice to see, although I am not a fanatic of airbrush stuff myself (it does look very much like airbrushed work).
The second one I like more, as you have much more texture, the lineout gives more strength to it (well, like I said, I am partial to airbrush work, so...). The colours are again very interesting, I particularly like the background and the very dirty texture. It looks very well done, not something that just came out of a filter effect.
As for your third image, I simply love it
It''s the kind of stuff I expect to see in a roleplaying book as an illustration for a character, for example.
Cool pose, very dynamic while still being immobile. I love the detail work. And I just think that for a lineout work it doesnt fall into the excessive lack of details that you would get in some other works.
I would love to know, is it a "pencil then inked then scanned" work or did you work straight on the computer ? If so, what''s your technique, ''cause it certainly doesn''t look like Flash, and yet the line is really alive.
I think I''ll save on my drive to give a try at colouring it, in fact
Hope to see more of your work in this forum (always nice to see new faces)
