Well, there''s one setting of my own design.
Basically, it''s the world inhabited by anthropomorphic animals (you can call them ''furries'', but they actually aren''t). The main race is goats, with the ''support cast'' being horses, cows, donkeys, wolves and dogs. Human are mythical creatures there.
The mythology and ethnology of the world is based on fairy tales and some puns. For example, the Seven Kids are the legendary heroes of this world (the world started as a spoof on the story of the Wolf and Seven Kids), and the main gods are Fig, Masl (Butter) and the wise Hren. In Russian, "Fig tebe s maslom" (''all you get is fig with butter'') means ''you will get nothing'', and ''Hren znaet'' (''Hren knows'') is a typical answer to a question you don''t know the answer to. Also, there''s a gangster band names Chicago Bulls, lead by a bull named Jordan. There''s a sity named Tombov, inhabited by wolves, which is called that way because it''s situated near the cemetery (get it? Tombov <-> Tomb), and also there a saying ''A wolf from Tambov is your comrade'', which is used when you call someone ''comrade'', and he doesn''t want to be called that way.
Historically, the setting is basically something along the lines of later Final Fantasies (VI or VII, for example) - there is some high technology in the world (like guns, motor bikes), but there''s also magic, and one is often taken for another.

Also, the setting I WOULD like to see in a game is African mythology, with beast totems, tattoos, shamanic magic, cannibalism as a means of acquiring your enemies'' skills. Remember, even the notion of zombies actually come from Africa.
Or Eskimo myths, they also have some interesting things in their life and beliefs.

I didnt wanna go thru all 60 posts, so I dont know if this was said, but a lot of anime and manga is rpg like and a ton of it,
actually 80% is based in the future. Everyone loves anime...
