My final blog post on my snake game, Garden of Eating! Version 2.0 has been available here on gamedev.net, as well as on my GitHub account, for the past few weeks. In the meantime, I've been busy creating a series of videos on its development. I think it acts as a decent point of reference for how I designed and coded the basic version of the game. And is decent as a tutorial for anyone starting out with SFML, or wanting to get into coding a basic game in C++.
I split it up into four parts:
Part 1 - Intro to SFML and the Splash Screen
Part 2 - Getting the Snake Moving
Part 3 - Eating Apples and Music / Sound
Part 4 - Adding Gameplay Options
I'm by no means any kind of authority on game development, so feel free to leave feedback in the comment section!
I'll be moving along to learning Godot, which I'm likely to use for my next 2D game. I'm not sure what exactly that game will be just yet, but I do have some goals and some ideas… Stay tuned for a new blog series where I'll start out by detailing what those goals are, and then take things through my learning process with Godot.
I'll be streaming my learning / game dev sessions periodically on my Twitch channel, rileyentertainment. I'll mostly be online weekday evenings for an hour or so at a time.
