Weekend Reading: Tales from Journal Land

Interesting to see how fast the view numbers dropped in the two weeks since I skipped announcing the posting of Weekend Reading on Facebook and twitter. The normal ~700 views dropped to 258 the first week and 176 the second. Can't say I'm surprised - I know I rely a lot on social media to remind me of things... still, wanted to see what would happen.

  • r1ckparker's Journal - r1ckparker has some new screenshots of Deepfall Dungeon showcasing the transition from 2D to 3D models, a change made thanks to the capabilities of his artist
  • Path Tracing Is Fun - Bacterius has some new renders of his GPU-powered path tracing using OpenCL with the first implementation of HDR
  • Antilia Development Journal - Jeff.Leigh covers several new additions to Antilla the major ones being better atmospheric rendering of the game world along with new character models and facial animation - plenty of screens and a video of the new world look and characters in action
  • Pixel ? Tile ? World logo+%20bullet.png - Servant of the Lord has updates on AdventureFar's script and editor along with thoughts on the upcoming Project Greenlight on Steam as well as a solution for a compile issue that has presented itself in the latest MingW GCC when combined with Qt and the latest C++ 11 standard
  • Rendering Systems - RSI3D has released an update to ShaderMap, bringing the version up to 2.0.5
  • AmzBee's Journal - AmzBee has a link to a new video of the Phobius engine in action, the latest build capable of importing user-created models
  • Beals Software logo+%20bullet.png - Programmer16 has a demo ready for Treasure House, the game project he is building off his SAGE engine
  • Archer Alec Devlog - HabitueGames has new screenshots showing off the improved lighting effects and a new enemy for Archer Alec
  • Kimmi's developer blog - Kimmi announces the Assimp Importer Library v3.0 has been released

    • Gnoblins - Development journal of an indie game - Ashaman73 departs from his usual updates on Gnoblins and talks about considerations for designing a game using procedural content. JTippets, another fan of procedural content, chimes in with additional resources
    • The Bag of Holding - ApochPiQ dumps a bunch of random game dev thoughts into this entry - some may apply or be helpful to you. If so, do let him know in the comments as that could prompt him to write a more in-depth entry on the topic...
    • New Old Things - Endurion adds another boss to his Commodore64 game project, but does change things up a bit
    • Shawn Hargreaves' Blog logo+%20bullet.png - Shawn Hargreaves is hard at work on Windows Phone 8 but wants to get some samples out for the DirectX Tool Kit so he's asking what people would like to see so he can prioritize
