From the Staff

  • The Code Zone Bargain Basement Blog - johnhattan reveals how easy it is to take apart an AIR for Android app and lay bare all its assets for you to re-purpose or repackage however you see fit. He also shares how he pointed this problem out to Adobe back in 2007 when he first heard about their plans to package the apps. Apparently the "security stuff" they said they would employ to prevent this never really happened?
    Project Updates

    • Wavesonics Pseudo-Random Journal Generator logo+%20bullet.png - Wavesonics has a short video up of his next project that shows off his first attempt at deformable terrain.
    • Kimmi's Blog - Kimmi talks about the new basic architecture running version 2 of his ZFX-Community-Engine, broken up into an Infrastructure Layer, RenderSystem Layer and Application Layer. The source has been committed to his SourceForge project as well.
    • __Homer__'s Journal - __Homer__ continues to update on his progress working on his academic project, including how to discover the portals connected to his subspaces, optimization, and how physics and collision detection come into play.
    • Keeping up with yesterday logo+%20bullet.png - a_insomniac updates on his Project 60 status, which is him creating a game in the (roughly) 60 days he has remaining before he goes back to school at DeVry for a degree in Bachelor of Science Game and Simulation Programming. After that he'll be updating us all on his academic progress to give others an idea of what the program is like.
    • Rendering Systems logo+%20bullet.png - RSI gives us a look at how the BrushUp Utility can take a computer scan of actual leaves (he used a couple from a house plant) and automagically convert the image into separate leaf objects that can then be used in the editor to create plants - all in about 5 minutes.
    • r1ckparker's Journal - r1ckparker has monsters out and moving about his 3D maze, old-school DOOM style and everything. He has a quick description of the algorithm used to tell the sprites which way to face and a YouTube vid of it all in action.
    • Journal of Aardvajk logo+%20bullet.png - Aardvajk shows he has some graphics on the screen and briefly delves into the code behind his bucket sorting for rendering objects on the screen
    • How I quit my day job logo+%20bullet.png - Battagline has decided to go the side-scroller/platform route for his Flash project. Later updates include some interface wrangling and basic platform objects being rendered.
    • Walking Towards The Sun - freeworld has a new video showcasing some massive destruction as he drops a ton of bombs on his destructible cityscape, plus a pretty cool graphical layout of his game flow. Never seen that style before. Bonus: lucid dreams.
    • The 'Massive' Project - Kagami has a video of the new tank model in action rolling around and shooting off into the distance, a first look at sounds as well.
    • Journal of Suspense - Suspense talks about his 2D action-platformer project Frogwood. A later update has a video as well.

      Game Dev Stuffs

      • New Old Things - Endurion is moving right along with his series on building a Commodore 64 game step by step. In his latest entry (Step 4) he talks about using the joystick to move the sprite around the screen. It's amazing how complicated the "little things" we see today were back then.
      • Just Let It Trickle - adeyblue goes over a way of tracking exactly how Windows is calling for DLLs in case you end up with problems loading them in your code. It doesn't tell you exactly where to find the missing DLL but it will show you where Windows is looking for it.
      • Rock, Paper, Glue - zarfius has released the first official build of Glue Editor Lite (v1), a scenegraph editor for Ogre3D. His post this week is a post-mortem on the creation of Glue Editor, which started with a much bigger scope. He details why the scope was narrowed and what other problems cropped up during development that needed to be overcome.
      • IfThen Software LLC - InvisibleMan continues his daily programming updates. Of note this past week are his post including a basic vertex shader example, which was something he was having trouble finding online; he also wonders if perhaps the Radeon X1000 actually NOT SM3.0 compliant?!
        Other Stuffs

        • Sheridan's adventures in random nonsense logo+%20bullet.png - poor Deranged gets his whole project schedule messed up when a teammate informs him the Diablo 3 beta is starting soon. "we gotta crunch"
        • kseh's blog - kseh has made his first C# app, called Noter, which is basically described as an offline text wiki. He wanted a way to link together text files without having to setup an interface that required information stored online. He has source and executable available for download as well as developer notes on his website
        • /* Why you crying? */ - JTippetts dares you not to close the braces. Go on! Try! (the full story is a link to one of johnhattan's daily comics)
