New Site Progress
It's no secret that we're working on a new version of the website. While GDNet is a great resource, there are plenty of ways we can make it better by bringing it more into the "Web 2.0" age. Obviously we can't go into details at this time as things are all still very much in the initial planning stages. Well, I shouldn't really call it that - everything's technically been "in planning" for the past few years - but now we're finalizing the actual plan for implementing it all. It's really happening now! I swear!! [smile]
This week the moderators were just given their first look at the direction, design and features of the new site and the response so far has been nothing but positive. They've already started giving us valuable feedback as well. If you want inklings of what is to come, then Superpig's journal is the place to watch.
Fan Photos on Facebook
Christopher "coldacid" Charabaruk was first to put up some fan photos on the GDNet Facebook page. If you've got any photos of yourself or you and some developer buddies hanging out or gaming or whatever, post them up! I mentioned in another sitrep that forum images like the GDNet Trading Card Game would be a cool set of images to post up. You can always contact me directly with some photos and I'll upload them to an actual album for you.
Think we can make it to 400 fans? Keep spreadin' the word!
LinkedIn Group Acceptance
Sorry if it's taken me a day or so to get you onto the GDNet LinkedIn group. It doesn't always notify me of new people pending for approval, and I don't always remember to check it! However the LinkedIn site is now in my list of daily-visited bookmarks so it shouldn't be more than a day (cept on weekends) for me to accept your invite. Currently the group stands at 66 members.
On the Air with IndieZen
I'll be taking my first foray into the web-radio space this weekend when I sit down with the IndieZen radio crew and record the weekend news brief. We basically give commentary for an hour on the top stories that came out the past week. Being that this week was E3, I'm sure we'll have plenty to chat about! I'll be posting more details when I get them.
GDC Paris Coverage
May seem a bit late, but there's always stuff to report from events like these. Even if you've followed other site's coverage you most likely didn't get it all. With 56 total sessions some were bound to be skipped, and we have a couple thanks to Emmanuel Deloget attending again this year. My favorite one was on Ubisoft's idea for an internal middleware team managing the engine technology across multiple platforms for Ubi's multiple studios. Nifty business idea. Check that out and more in the full coverage.
New Events
No new events this week, if you have an event that's not listed in our Events Calendar, let me know! - drew@gamedev.net
