Check out this Sprite I did just a min ago.

I want to ask how I could make this sprite look less cartoony? Especially in the face. I was going to try to do it like
castlevaninia and have one pixile for the eye (or no eyes ehew!)And I'm going to add a lot more shadows to the pants.
Any other suggestions?

Here, I changed it a little bit.
The one on the left is the original. Place your hand over one and tell me which one looks better.

Also found that by changing the hue/Saturation I can get more of the grungy less cartoony look to it. The sprite on the right here is the original and the left is the modified version.
Oh yeah, when using photoshop, how do you make the background transperent( without exporting it as a gif and getting all that crappy color deduction)?

Only GIF (and PNG ?) could deal with transparency.
if you work with photoshop use Image Ready to decrease to 256 colors gif

Actually, I''m a big fan of Escaflowne. I get my sprite style from Samuria SHowdown/Castlevania/ and some anime.
heres another one I finished this morning.
The one on the left is the original. ( I''m still debating which to go with, the modified ones are just lighter and the colors are dulled a bit.) Any suggestions?

Definitely a unique style! :D I like it.
Jotaroh: Have you by any chance read Musashi: The Samurai, by Eiji Yoshikawa?

I''ve decided to go with the modifided versions for clarity. Heres a concept-to-sprite sheet for that one character.

Very nice work! What kind of game are these sprites for? The stances suggest a Street Fighter like fighting game. Or Castlevania platform maybe? In any case you have a lot of talent. If you''re going for a darker look then the dulled versions I think are more suitable. You don''t want a dark castle and really bright sprite...
