Frames per second is just a unit of measurement. What do you mean by having a loop "without the fps"??

The best thing about the internet is the way people with no experience or qualifications can pretend to be completely superior to other people who have no experience or qualifications.
What do you mean by "a loop without the fps"?
You should probably, as earlier suggested, learn how animations work before you "take the fps out of the loop" .

Why not mess a bit with a mouse cursor animation program? That should get you started.

But would it be any different if you just had a loop without the fps?

Do you mean if you took the FPS calculation out of the loop?

Of course you don''t need to calculate the framerate. It''s just often very useful to know what it is. You will probably want to have some method of viewing your fps, because you probably will want to have an idea of how fast your game is running. But if you don''t care about it, then no, there''s no need to bother calculating it.
I don''t get how it works. You put it in a while loop right? Say you want 30 fps, which is about 33 MilSec.

while(blah < 33);

Then, it just run 33 times wouldn''t it? But, in a demo program I have, it just keeps on running!
