A simple question, needs simpel answer
Anyone who played Street Gang to NES?
i''m just wondering if thats a very complicated game for a beginner or a good starters game or something like that?
True hackers are intelligent, they have to be. Either they do really great in school because they have nothing better to do, or they don't do so well because school is terribly boring. And the ones who are bored aren't that way because they don't give a shit about learning anything. A true hacker wants to know everything. They're bored because schools teach the same dull things over and over and over, nothing new, nothing challenging.
don''t know that game, but...
i think the agreed upon starters games are:
pong
breakout
tetris
-me

Was it called River City Ransom in the United States? Then yes, I''ve played it. It shouldn''t be hard to make a game similar to that. I would say that any game for the NES would be okay for a beginner (technology wise). You will probably want to stick to the games with shorter stories and less level design (like Zelda, Final Fantasy, Metroid), but once you have a working engine you can add more levels later (or get other people to make levels for you).
Now if you were programming the game for the NES, it would be difficult. But in general, PC prorgramming is a lot easier than programming for old consoles was. This one is just a simple side-scroller. You have a lot of choices as to how to approach it, though (2-D, 3-D, etc).
Are you looking to make a game that looks like Street Gangs, or just one that plays like it?

I think when you are learning how to program, it is important to make things YOU think are fun. This helps to keep you interested in your project.
You''ll have plenty of time later to program things OTHER people think are fun if you get a job in the industry.
But if you want your first project to make money, you might do some research. However, I don''t know of many people who intended to try to sell their first game...if they did sell the game it was only because it turned out better than expected.
Of course, this is all my opinion. I''d be glad to hear any other point of views.
