Would it be required or helpful to learn/know WinSock before learning DirectPlay?

Most people that are going to use DirectPlay just forget about winsock entirely. I''ve heard DP is very simplified and it seems most people prefer to learn winsock in place of DP.

You don''t need to know Winsock to use DirectPlay. It took about an hour or two to get a working client server going with DirectPlay having never used it or Winsock before. However you should learn Winsock anyway eventually.
