Tips for Crafting an Effective Sales Pitch?

Hello!

I am seeking advice from any developer who has ever succeeded in pitching a game concept—whether to a publisher, or to the general public (e.g., via a crowdsourcing campaign).

How would you describe the overall experience?

And why, in retrospect, do you think that you were successful?

Thanks!
