Hello gamedev community,

I'm sure you guys get this all the time but I got an idea for a game.

It will be a real time multiplayer game, with up to 10 players in a room.

I have played around with C++, Java, python and a few scripting languages before, not a complete newbie, but I'm completely lost as I want to make this game as cross platform as possible and have no experience in such, I've been taking a look at the available tools for game dev like Cocos2d and AppWarp for the networking but I can't make my mind, so I come to you.

I'm willing to spend my time learning any language, environment and whatever it takes to make my game, time is not an issue.

What do you guys recommend?

For cross platform it's hard to beat unity or ue4, though they have a learning curve. Cocos2d is also a decent option.

What type of game is it? 2d? 3d? What kind of visuals?

It is a 2d game, simple interface in which the players could see information about the room they are in (other players, displaying their points and such), and a screen where they could interact directly. Nothing fancy or requiring elaborated effects.
