Isnt this forum boring?
When I joined the forums I was young and crazy and I guess most of the "founding fathers" were as well.
GDNet was one of the prime gamedev related forums. These days you have a multitude of different resources available.
Now most of the original members are probably out of college, in stable jobs and have a family of their own.
Back then it did feel more like a tight-knit community of regular members who, besides being extremely knowledgable in their fields,
had time to get into long and seemingly neverending discussions, including silly stuff and even creating GDNet memes. floorcaek anyone?
I think it's just normal that once this large, somewhat homogenous group separates and new members only join irregularly, the original spirit gets lost.
If we want to have a revival of some sorts we must be more proactive with community driven efforts. The GDNet weekend challenges are a good example.
And a personal advice to fir:
You sound somewhat depressed (just my humble opinion). Maybe you should try to find happyness outside of the net. The place has become somewhat sterile and technical.
When I think about that subject I dont even think about the lounge, I never visited the lounge on the first months/maybe years, I was always on the technical side, I started visited the lounge all of sudden for no reason.
I dont have programming friends, so the internet is the only place to ask for help. Gamedev was like the illuminated oracle I found where my questions where answered without needing a wall of context. My english was pure crap (was ¦D), and this was the first forum without grammar nazis I ever found, can you imagine my shock? Theres such thing as places without grammar nazis, wooooot /o/

Direct3D has need of instancing, but we do not. We have plenty of glVertexAttrib calls.

fir - your issues with social interaction are not our problem and this passive aggressive thread you have started is embarrassing.
You'll find your attitude gets you disliked in almost all professional environments. The problem here is squarely on your own shoulders.

Real life i know is boring (I mean almost all post-college life i know), I mean avaliable real life for me is boring (I would say about equally boring to this forum i criticize, no offence ;/)
But thats a different story, and I was speaking not about that, Some other internet places I know, are indeed a bit better than here,- this place is almost a temple of boredom for me; little exagerrating, but it could be better, y a w n
