I need a good show to waste my time

I fear it might be too british humor for me... but I'll watch it one of these days.

The IT Crowd. It is british but having watched all of the seasons (or "series," as they call it there in Britania) I can guarantee you'll laugh, especially since it'll appeal to your nerdy side.
I'm kind of surprised not to see 24 mentioned here. The first season was incredible, the second pretty good, I gave up about 4 episodes into the third season.

I love IT Crowd! And now that I think of British shows too, Pulling was pretty good.

Try "The Walking Dead" which aired on Amc...it's a series about people trying to survive after a zombie apocalypse. :P

And also I noticed the wire mentioned...if you like that then you might like another one of HBO's "street drama's" called The Corner.

I did start watching that show Psych, and yeah it is pretty funny, but extremely sitcomy, in the sense it's a different story everytime, and aslong as you watched the first episode you can jump in at anytime. Since they're really doesn't seem to be any ongoing story.

Yeah, Psych is pretty much the definition of "a good show to waste my time" :) There are a few recurring characters and ongoing stories, but for the most part it's "silly murder concept->45 minutes of random 80s references->case solved".

Good times.

I must be on the wrong forum. A board full of geeks and no-one mentions firefly?

He said not corny. I don't care whether you think Firefly is good or not (I for one think it's utter crap, and I can't understand why anyone aside from a 13 year old girl would like it or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but that's just me), but you have to admit it's corny.

Actually I don't have to admit any such thing. I really enjoyed it, and I thought was a pretty reasonable bit of speculative fiction. The dialog was pretty typical whedon, but there were some really interesting characters (the priest for instance).

I hope it never gets mentioned again. The only thing I've ever like about 24, and it had nothing to do with the show, but watching that guy attack a christmas tree was hilarious.

I mean corny as in trying way to hard to be funny, especialy when serious style shows try to be funny... try watching "life on mars" great concept, semi decent show, but they constantly try to make fun of the fact that we do things differently now then we used to in the 70's. It starts to get corny.

I'll probably watch firefly one of these days, I've always heard great things about it from people that like the same things I do... plus that redhead...;), same thing with farscape, I've tried watching that and it does come off as a decent show I get uninterested in it half way through and episode, but the end always makes me want to start the next one.

I'm not mean, I just like to get to the point.

plus that redhead...;)

If you are going to watch a show purely for Christina Hendricks, then watch Mad Men instead. You get drinking, smoking, sex and beautiful 60's clothing/architecture/etc.
