I need a good show to waste my time
I have an easy answer for you... just get Netflix! I love Netflix they have tons of TV Series some old that I haven't seen in over a decade and I personally liked the series Sliders from the mid to late 90's... They also have tons of newer series too. Check it out only 8.xx/month and it is worth it... lots of movies too!

Got the streaming version... but feel I've exhausted the worthwhile shows already, and since psn has been down, the pc interface makes it really hard to just scan through they're collection... let alon there's alot of stuff on there that isn't in the list.. you have to actually search for the shows.
Oh another one can anyone suggest a show thats similar to "always sunny" or "the league" (the league and Seinfeld are the only shows I can watch the same episode over and over again and still laugh. or similar to "the guild".... I know I've watched alot of shows so finding something new is hard to do.
oh and I've watch the first 2 seasons of sliders, recently, and when it was actually on tv. It derails pretty quickly.
Have you seen Seasons 1-6 of Dr. Who? Good show.
I fear it might be too british humor for me... but I'll watch it one of these days.
and Way2Lazy I love TopGear... I love it so much I even watch the american version... one day dream of owning and slr. If you even seen the episode where they race, the train, car and bike, that's my 5 year old sons favorite episode. but he a huge Thomas the tank engine fan too.

Psych is an excellent "nerdy" comedy... took me a few episodes to suspend disbelief (as they portray everybody that isn't the main character as an oblivious fool), but once you get hooked in it's a fun ride.
Check out my new game Smash and Dash at:
The Shield is good, well most of it anyway. It's supposedly pretty similar to The Wire though. I liked Weeds, though it's kind of inconsistent. Pushing Daisies is a great one, IMO. There's also Buffy, if you're into that sort of thing. Though I have a hard time getting a handle on your taste if you preferred season 3 of Dexter to season 4-- but at least I can warn you off of season 5.
For comedies like Philadelphia, I can heartily recommend Party Down (available on Netflix streaming last I checked). If you liked Seinfeld, you might also like Curb Your Enthusiasm. And Flight of the Conchords is one of my all-time favorite comedies. Season 2 isn't anywhere near as good as 1, but 1 is awfully high up there.
Most of my most favorite shows of all time lasted for one season, which doesn't meet your criteria .

yeah, weeds similar to dexter... I think they just ran out of thinks to talk about, the show derailed in season 4 or 5. No thanks on the buffy... too chicky. I kind like curb you enthusiasm, but it's a little dry, kinda like the office, it feels like it should be a really funny show but it just comes off like if you've never been in those situation you'll never understand it.

I keep looking at that show but never watch it... is it like "lie to me", that show was good the first two episode but it just turned into the same episode different characters, same with the show numbers, always the same story, just different people.

season 4 was my favourtite (if that was the john lithgow season... probably just butchered his name). After that it became a drama about a babysitting serial killer
To be fair Dexter has had a couple on and off seasons. While I didn't think the last season was amazing, I think a lot of stuff that was handled in it was necessary to get the show to a place where it could have another great season.
Secret diary of a call girl is pretty entertaining, but is definitely not PG-13 or below if that's a problem. Game of thrones just started, but it is pretty sweet.
Other than that I'm tapped because I have exactly the same problem
Crime shows:
- Psych was good for a few seasons, but the new seasons are corny.
- The Mentalist is a must see (ex-psychic now working for the police helping to solve murders, all in the hope to find the big baddie 'Red John' who killed his family).
- White Collar is good fun (ex-con who was a master forger and thief now working for the FBI to solve odd jobs, all in the hope to find the big baddie who kidnapped/killed his girlfriend).
- Dexter is a good and exciting watch (sociopathic serial killer who works as a blood spatter analyst by day and is a vigilante by night).
- Burn notice is good fun (spy show).
- Underbelly is one of the few worthwhile Australian tv series to watch (true stories).
- Fringe is a fairly decent paranormal science show.
- Sherlock is a pretty fun British crime show that put a modern twist to Sherlock Holmes.
- Terriers is an intriguing show about an ex-cop and ex-thief who start by trying to solve one crime which unravels itself to be a part of a much larger one.
Law shows:
- Drop Dead Diva is pretty fun (maybe you will think it's too chicky though)
- The Good Wife is intriguing (about the wife of the states attorney who cheated on her. Started off with a seemingly deeper story to the scandal-- here's to hoping it returns to that).
- The Defenders is good fun (Defense lawyers in Los Vegas).
Super Natural shows:
- Vampire Diaries is an interesting vampire/witch/werewolf affair.
- The Gates is worth a watch (vampire/werewolf/other strange things).
- Heroes was alright for a few seasons (super heroes vs super villains).
- The Walking Dead is a good zombie show.
- True Blood was alright for a few seasons (vampires/werewolves/other strange things)
- Merlin is good fun.
Other Good ones:
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was getting very good in second season.
- Spartacus blood and sand is interesting and exciting.
- The Office is a highly awkward, laugh-a-minute tv show which is good fun.
- The Big Bang Theory is a nerdy, laugh-a-minute tv show which is also good fun.
- Pretty Little Liars is a murder mystery kind of show centring around high school girls.
These aren't in any order. I only listed ones which I am excited to see the new episodes of (ie, good ones).

Yeah I started watching dexter, right before season 4 started, so I had enough to watch before the season ended, i'd definitely say it's one of those shows you need to be able to watch an episode every other nite, or else you loose interest pretty fast. Not what I'd call the average Americans' dumb sitcom style show. Secret diary of a call girl, is another one I heard alot of good things about, but it slipped my mind until now. Dont think it's on netflix stream.
You guys have been awesome, I've got alot of things to try out now. And if i get the balls to do it, I might actually finish season 5 of dexter, think I made it to episode 3, before i gave up on it, but by then I was waiting a week inbetween episodes... so maybe it was my add killing the show.

BBT, is another one I liked, but by season 3, it turned into just another sitcom. Definitely a great nerdy show, and I'm glad to call my self a nerd. I'm actually trying to watch Hereos, after only watching the first season when it was on, just got to the 4th season and it's getting pretty dumb now. What a waste of a great concept.
You've given me a ton more to waste my time, thanks again.
Oh and the walking dead, are they going to continue that show, I watched the very last episode, and it seemed pretty good... but I like stupid zombie survival movies aswell.
