I need a tool that will analyze a song and output beat detection information to a file. Does such a program exist?

what do you need to do exactly? just find out the bpm?

If your on a mac you can do it in Logic. Just go into the audio editor, click factory>audio to MIDI groove template. It's a bit hit or miss though IMO.
