Pro Tools
I noticed the sticky above, providing a guide to audio software to use for making sound for games, does not include Pro Tools. It is the only sequencer mentioned in nearly every single job vacancy for Sound Design/Audio Direction, possibly closely followed by Sound Forge. Next to none of them mention Logic, however many people do use it for composition. You are doing a disservice to aspiring fresh audio geeks looking for advice by not making a bit of a deal about Pro Tools in this list.
It also crosses over very well into audio post for film, which I am sure many people dabble in. (Although you need a HD rig or the DV toolkit on an LE system to get timecode, £++).
The latest Pro Tools, that being version 8, has some fantastic new plugins very useful to sound designers, such as Talkbox Vocoder, a great pitchshifter, aggressive filters, and filter gates.
No I do not work for Digidesign. x
That list is pretty old (the last update was in 2005) and hasn't been kept up. I recently, within the last 4 months or so, took on moderating the Music and Sound forum and use both Pro Tools and Logic daily. So I'm definitely on the same page and will be updating this page once I get a bit more free time.
