Mini tutorial 3 : fast, easy and it looks nice, too

Well, the technique rely on the existence of the "turn Selection into Path" button. Which really does all the work.
I dont recall that Paint Shop Pro has an equivalent tool.

However I poster another tutorial similar to this one (look for "Mini tutorial" in my profile, I dont remember which one it was), which gives results slightly different but still, it''s better than nothing.

Right. I got that. PSP doesn''t have this feature. But with the algorithm (or a similar one) I could whip up a quick utility to do the same. I probably should have asked on the graphics programming forum.

Aaah, I understand your question now But I have to admit this is beyond my knowledge.
We are talking about finding the edges of a bitmap surface, creating control points on this outline, and creating appropriate values on the control points so that the resulting Beziers curve (or whatever vector based line drawing system they use) matches the selection edges.
I would love to see an algorithm for that, but honestly I am not sure.
Definitely more a Grpahic Programming question.

I have a feeling that once you have found the edges of the Selection you would have to find the local maxima, using the slope values there to assign weights to your control points, but I am wondering how you could correctly find the local maxima in the first place, since you would be working with pixels... interesting...

uh, what do you mean drawing techniques ?

If it''s general knowledge, well, I am only happy to propagate it (especially since, as you''ll have read, this is only the translation from an original tutorial by the FalkenZone).

Anyway I am happy for you if you dont find this useful, as it means you have reached a level where you dont need this anymore.
Now why dont you post something you''ve done in the gallery thread for all of us to see ?

For the others, I''ll suggest you look at SunAndShadow anime sketch, I posted a modified version using this technique.
I think the results speak for themselves...

A little Fire Spirit

Probably less than half an hour for each.
Each using my trusty Wacom, Photoshop 6, and that''s about it.

They''re really cool, but the first one is extremely dark, and the head of the fire spirit looks like an onion IMHO =)

Well, the first one is dark on purpose, I wanted to do something with low contrast but nice colours.
As for the second, what can I say, it''s a doodle made into a drawing, I wasnt attempting anything realistic, so of course the proportions are a bit strange

It was the first thing that cam into my mind Probably because the left side of the face is quite round, and the black lines going up from the eyebrow area. Overall it''s really cool ( I especially like the flames above the head ). Did you draw the different color shapes on separate layers and then use the path techniques to smooth them?
