When im using the pencil tool, I need it to be smaller, but it says its at 1 pixel, but it seems to be at around . I use the scroller to change the size but when its at 1 px, its still too big. I also use the brackets [ and ] For example I have a sketch, and i need to refine the lines, so i try to use the pencil tool to fix something, yet the brush is too big so I cant. Did i change the brush properties somehow? or am I messing around wiht way too much detail? Also, say I have a black background, and I use the Brush tool and paint white, insted of painting white, it lightens the black to a light grayish Anyone know what is going on?

If your pencil is set at 1px and your brush looks too big it's probably because you are zoomed in. Check your zoom level (set to 100%) and try again.

You need to change the opacity of your brush to 100% (opaque).

so the only possiblity is that i've zoomed in and that there has been no changes to the tool?

i was (and am) aware of the zooming and all that, it just seems like it doesnt get as small as it used to

zoom in all the way, make sure you put a 1 pixel selection on the screen. fill it.

ok zoom back out. get that "1px" brush, tap the mouse to draw a point.

zoom in on both, same size? it's just your mind.

It could also be that your actual image size of your canvas is too small. If you make an image 25x25 pixels, and you have the image zoomed in to fit the screen, the pixels will seem a lot larger than a 1024x1024 image that is zoomed in to fit the screen. Can you tell us your image size?
