dell server
Hi guys,
im looking to get one of these servers:
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/tower_servers?c=de&cs=debsdt1&l=de&s=bsd
I don't know much about the topic and basically Im not looking for anything fancy. It should be reliable and good for remote data transfer and storage. Id like to have at least 2 Harddrives that mirror the contents in some RAU|ID scheme I suppose.
Any tips or recommendations on which konfiguration to get in terms of price performance etc.
Thanks

My recommendation would be to build your own computer and set up whatever OS you choose with your server config. It would be easier to help you if you let us know what your going to be using it for. Remote data storage you could grab just about any configuration of hardware with an onboard RAID controller and set up FileZilla Server on it and use that to remotely transfer files. Locally transferring files is as easy as sharing whatever folders you'd like on the server, and mapping those drives on the client machine.(assuming your using Windows).

If you're only going for remote file access, getting an expensive Dell Server might be a bit overkill.
You might aswell build a server from a few components for less(Esp. cut down on CPU costs). Get a RAID card and some more disk space that those Dell servers come with.
