Hello I'm using a direct sound Ali audio wave sound card and I need help on how to plug in this VST in FLstudio. So my piano roll is there. I click on replace with EWQL, then the VST plugin shows up. I just click on 1:empty and choose an instrument. But when I try to play it with FLstudio sequencer I don't hear anything, I only see the moving keys. When I push the keyboard from EWQL I hear the instrument. And when I use the multi preset, then it works, and it also says that the output is different from the preset output. What that means I don't know. But I don't want to load 4 instruments at one time, my computer can't manage its memory... My question is why didn't I hear anything when I chose one instrument (without loading the multi)? I definately saw the piano keys move! And in the FLStudio piano roll I also saw the keys move, but no sound. Can anyone enlighten me please? Thanks
Hm, I'm not familiar with the way FL Studio handles VST instruments, but if it is in any way similar to for example Cubase, the important things to check are:

1) the midi channel is connected to the VST instrument (which in your case probably has been done if the VST instrument virtual keyboard reacts to the signals)
2) the midi channel with which the signal is sent to the VST instrument is the same channel you have loaded the instrument to. This could be your problem if for example you are sending the signals with channel 3 and have loaded the instruments to channel 1. The signals probably trigger the virtual keyboard, but because the channel isn't tied to any instrument, no sound is played.
3) if there is some kind of setup with which the VST instrument is connected to the actual sequencer wave output, it should be verified. This could also be the case - your signal goes to the VST instrument on the right channel, but the produced sound is never actually driven to the mixer and it's output channel. If this is possible and how it could be verified in FL Studio, I don't know

Hopefully these ideas offer some help

Thank you for your answer, I really appreciate it. I just found out how I managed to be so stupid. But really, I have to say it's a non friendly interface.

I figured out that at the left side in that box there is this very small icon with a number next to it. I had to select omni and put in the appropriate instrument. It stands on 1 on default. Maybe it didn't sound because my midi piano roll stood on another channel than 1...

Another question: what are those 16 numbers for if you can always choose omni?
And my memory is 256 RAM, I always get warnings about my memory, therefore the VST's don't load properly and get stuck, is there a way to enhance this?

Depending on where the omni mode is set, it can mean various things - either that the sequencer sends the signals on every midi channel 1-16 or that the VST instrument listens to every midi channel 1-16, no matter what the original channel data was, so it is not reasonable to use it if you send more than one channel data to your VST instrument and want to keep the signals distinct. So basically the 16 numbers are used to set up the channel separation - this instrument listens to this spesific channel and nothing else. You could go through the numbers through 1 to 16 and see, what number produces the sound in your current set-up.

256 megs of memory is very very little for VST based sequencing. I'd say there isn't much you can do. Basically only thing which helps is that every time you put up a VST instrument track, you convert it to a wave file and minimize the memory and processor strain, because at the same time you only have so many virtual instrument signals to process and everything else is waveform. I'd say minimum reasonable memory amount is 1 gig and recommended amount is 2 gigs. I have 2 gigs on my studio machine and it is just enough for complex orchestral tunes to be played without need for "freezing" the tracks to waveforms. Especially if you run samplers similar to Kontakt / GigaStudio in addition to normal VST instruments.

I'm having problems with the same notes coming after each other. Like: do do. The slow violins won't play them all together, they only play the first note.

What could be the reason? Edirol doesn't have this problem.
