I just bought a new behringer mixer and it doesnt have an on/off switch is it really safe/power efficient to leave it on forever? It says to unplug it during elctrical storms or long periods of no use (im sure this is a standard electronic warning) but I use it everyday. I suppose I could unplug it before bed each night....seems strange anyone else have mixers like this?

nope.

Not that I have a mixer, nor do I know what it does (mix?), but my guitar teacher warned me for behringer once, and it's bad quality. Not sure if that's true though.

ehh...yeah, Behringer is great quality for the price usually, but is about as low as you can go quality wise in the "prosumer" audio gear world. That's generally speaking mind you, I've heard great mixes that later I found were ran through a Behringer mixer and I couldn't tell the difference. They are typically noisy though, which renders them useless beyond a certain level of production quality.

As for leaving it on all the time, shouldn't be a problem. I mean, you have all the necessary power protection for your gear right? Florida is lightning capital of the world so I know a bit about that. If you notice it gets super hot after a day or two of leaving it on you may want to consider buying a switch to run between the mixer and the power cord. Actually, I'd probably buy the switch anyways.

I always hear musicians talk about behringer being so bad but they seem to stay in business so it makes me wonder if they are so bad why do people buy them? Price im sure is the answer the that. I never had any problems with my old behringer mixer. I didnt notice any noise or anything like that. I suppose it's possible that if I had another mixer compared next ot it I may notice a difference but maybe not. These xenyx's are pretty new I guess and they are supposed to have better mic pres than the UB line.

I've got a Behringer UB802 - when I turn off my computer (once every few days), I just unplug the power. No problem at all. If you wanna get classy, you can totally just buy some kinda random external power switch that you plug the whole mixer into... it'd do exactly the same thing as unplugging, but with less wear and tear on the plug. I'm sure radioshack would have something like that for less than $10, but again, it's not really that serious. ;)

About Behringer products, they're pretty good, especially for the price. People complain about them b/c they shamelessly reverse-engineer more expensive equipment, then rebuild it cheaper and with less frills. So you end up with quality affordable products, ideal for hobbyists, but annoying to oldschool professionals with loyalty to the more legitimate brands.



....that being said, I have a Behringer mixer :P

I have a Behringer UB1202 and if I leave it on too long it tends to get very hot. Even though it may not be harming anything, I leave it plugged into a spike bar that I turn off when I'm not recording. I don't know why everyone hates them so much, mine has never failed me. I have heard that Behringer amps suck, but of their recording equipment I've only heard good things.
