What proprotions should a tile have?
Hi, I have built a 3D tiled engine (See screenshots by going to www.rolemaker.dk and clicking screenshots in the bar to the left), and I initially made tiles 10x10x10 units big. A character is 10 units high (=1 tile). The problem with this is that he has to walk quite a distance to go to an adjacent tile. Surely, the tiles should be slimmer if I want to match it the size of humanoid character.
The question for this forum is: What proportions of tiles do you all have experiences with and do you have any recommendations of what to use.
I am currently thinking of making tiles 5 x 5 x 10 in size and then making walls only 1/2 thick (in the screenshots they are 1 unit thick). I have walls (and floor/ceiling) all around a tile so this leaves 4 x 4 x 9 for the character, but it still have to walk full 5 units to go to an adjacent tile. What do you think?
