I''m using Metroworks Code Warrior for all of my work, I''m working on a multi platform game with a couple of other guys and Metroworks allows me to target Mac OS, Windows, and Linux without changing from one machine to another (except in the case of a few libraries).

Just a note, you can target BeOS as well. BeOS comes with a version of Code Warrior just for it. Even though it''s not the most current version it works pretty good. If you''re targeting all those other platforms, you might look into BeOS then. Especially with the new OpenGL implementation that''s coming. It would be good to see alternative OS support favored.

Just a thought.

I''ve also done the c_dfi* constants for DirectInput which you cannot get by simple implibing

How do you do that? I need to do something equivalent for lcc-win32. I need some info in this. I just don''t understand why MS had to put static data in the *.libs.

Oh well. Look forward to a response.

Ansi C++ and
M$ C++
2 different standards, I think one reason people like VC++ is that you can get away with alot more stuff... Well the IDE is nice if you''re lazy, plus struct is from C but M$ still uses it in their example code instead of the standard Class, C# proves that M$ doesnt think that ANSI knows anything and they''ll do it their way. Theres nothing wrong with VC++, but I think it promotes sloppy coding... , but in the end thats really up to the person doing the coding:-) Oh well...

Well this is what I did:
1) Since at school (compsci) we use VC (boohooo) I managed to do a breakpoint in the program, and then looked at all the values in the structures.
2) Very tediously, I managed to copy and paste all the little bits of information across. NOT fun.
However the DirectX help does give you some information on the values in the strutures.
I''ll see if I can find the .cpp file I used to make the static info. Then you can just recompile!

That doesn''t sound like fun. I guess what you mean is that I have to write a program that uses DInput (this is the one I want) and set a breakpoint in the program. That look at the disassembly window and copy(?!?!?!) the data over?

This is going to be a loooooong day.....

Why does Micro$leaze always have to make its own standards, just to make us have more need for WinFroze!

They did it with C, JAVA, HTML, and the list goes on...

I just hope to hell that M$ isn''t good enough to force C# onto us... for then, we are truly doomed...

Well I just read somewhere that MS is going to make a translator for migration from Java to .NET for developers. It''s called JUMP or something. I think it was on the news headlines for Techweb or something.

Yeah, but not it''s not that difficult. Using VC++, I compiled a simple app for DInput. I then put a breakpoint in the DInput setup code.
1) Use VC''s debugger viewer to see each value of the struct.
2) Copy.
3) Paste.
4) Finished (2 hours later)?. Right. Now you can create a lib that _has_ those static structs, and compile into your not-MSVC-compiler.

But wait! I might be able to find the cpp file I used to create the static lib, it contains the structs with the values. I should find it on the Zip backups when I get home.

BCB DX Library - RAD C++ Game development for BCB
Great. I had to compile the GUIDs in a seperate *.lib file. So now I''ve got 2 DInput libs, DInput_A.lib which has all the usual DI stuff, and DInput_B.lib which has all the silly static data. I think it should work.

Thanks C++freak.
