Sound with Allegro

When I play a .wav file in windows it sounds fine and dandy, but when I write a program to play it using the Allegro library''s sound card autodetect and .wav playing functions it sounds crap. Why? Also, does anybody know where I might find a .wav of a tennis ball hitting a tennis racket? I would make one myself, but I don''t actually own a tennis ball, tennis racket or microphone :¬( cheers Zaph.
its probably because alllegro uses dos (i think), and everything looks / sounds like crap in dos, compared to windows that is... unless you have a crummy sound card anyway, but that wouldnt be the problem...

It''s because of the autodetect. Try not to use it. And you''ll see that it will sound much better.

Tsu> MANY dos games look/sound better then Windows games. And most of them have much better gameplay.

"To some its a six-pack, to me it's a support group."
then sorry ''bout that...
i havent ever seen a dos game that was better (graphics-wise / sound-wise) than a windows game... and i wasn''t talking about gameplay wise... i agree with you with that one...

A suggestion: download latest WIP (3.9.33 is the latest official one, but if you have CVS you can get 3.9.34) and compile Allegro for Windows (a variety of Win32 compilers are supported, see docs). It''ll use DirectX also for sound, so you should solve your problems...

http://sourceforge.net/projects/alleg

It''s just one file to download, that contains code for all the Allegro ports (DOS, Win32, Linux, BeOS and the beginning of a MacOS one)

Have fun!
cheers for all the help.
