BSP and Permissions

Hi, there is some smart people, that can explane me *.bsp files is under ID Software copyrights or not ?? I''m trying to write mail to ID Soft. but i didn''t get any answers ! I know that their bsp files nothing else that IBSP ( Binary Trees ) format. It''s true ??? Can i use it to store levels ??

1) From what I read at flipcode. It''s not copyrighted. However, If you want to write your own 3d engine. Your probaly better off makeing your own format.

Yes you have to write a compiler/editor but it gives you flexability you wouldn''t have if you used theirs.

2) It contains more then just the tree. It contains texture names, entrys and other quake specific stuff.

3) Course! What do think this format does? BSP is a way to split up rooms, objects and other things so when a computer draws them, it will draw them in the correct order so they don''t overlap. With Z-Buffering hardware, this is no longer nessary. However, doing so takes a some of the stress off the hardware. BSP also makes it easy to generate portals. For PVS.

I just wanted you to know that your web page is very helpful but it is not showing all of the images.
