i''m learning to make homepage... soo what program should i use ??

If you kno HMTL, or will be soon (it only takes about a day), then i would strongly suggest 1stPage 2000, i think its by a company called evrsoft... you can find it at tucows(.com), just search for it...

If you dont know HTML, then i suggest learning it... just because i believe programs like frontpage are stupid... i used it and it created about 100 extra, un-needed files, totalling about 10 megs...

i'd go with 1stpage 2000 if i were you... it makes the commands nice colors so you can tell what's what easier... it comes with a huge help system describing what each command does, it also comes with libraries of dhtml andn java scripts, a roll-over image maker, and a bunch of cgi-scripts... if you need them...

HotDog is easy to use and you learn the tags at the same time. The easiest of course is FrontPage, but I found that if you know your code or if you are an expert (or become one) I the interface of FrontPage is not optimised.

Another one (free) is 1st page 2000... It is good, freeware but I still don't like the Interface.
DreamWeaver is one of the best with Adobe GoLive!, but they are professional tool and I wouldn't suggest to start with Photoshop while you only need Paint Ok wrong comparison...

The best I could suggest to start with is HotDog, but if you don't know HTML at ALL I suggest FrontPage.

Of course, you could use Notepad . I personnally use UltraEdit just because I have a license...

If you only need color, then every programs out there will do .

Notepad works great. You end up with easily understood html and a non-bloated page that loads fast and doesn''t depend on a lot of proprietary junk that doesn''t work in one brower or another or even in different versions of the same browser.

Of course you do need to know basic html. But html is easy.

Notepad is the best tool. All those site building programs suck sooo much, just for lamers. Use notepad for the general stuff, and Visual InterDev for developing your JScript / VBScript / DHTML / ASP stuff.

Notepad or edit are the best web page editors. If you use Linux emacs is quite good too.

Curious as to why some of you are so against programs like Frontpage? You can create pages 10x faster than with notepad.

And since it contains a script editor you can use JUST like notepad, except it has more feature than notepad.

BECAUSE, Frontpage uses a lot of proprietary extensions that the user is unaware of unless they are not a new user. This is bad for a newbie, because they don''t then understand that the use of all those wonderful extras, like themes and stuff won''t work unless it''s on a Frontpage compatible server.
1stPage 2000 is very good. It''s got color syntax highlighting, a way to force compatibility with certain specs, ftp transfer, and it''s NOT WYSIWYG. It also has a great reference help and it comes with a lot of script snippets for java-script and stuff.

If you want to use notepad, I would suggest you get metapad. It is like notepad, but it''s got a cool purple icon and it is much better. Search for it on www.download.com
