Which Video Card Should I Buy?
Hi everyone,
I just recently started making OpenGL examples without the
GLUT crutch. Now that I''m one step closer to my goal, I figured I should start making more complicated and full featured examples. The only problem is that when I want to move the camera or the objects in my scenes, I get really poor framerates.
Which video card should I buy? My main concern is that the card
I actually buy should increase the framerates of the OpenGL projects I already have. Do such cards exist, or do all cards
have a propriety set of pseudo-OpenGL instructions?
Thanks for your advice,
Ethan
I would get just a TNT2. Don''t go out and buy the latest video card because then you''ll make games that look great with your configuration, but won''t look half as good when the consumer plays it on their machine.

I would advice a KYRO (http://kyro.st.com), or GeForceII MX.
KYRO should be more interesting playing with.
It''s OpenGL and Direct3D Hardware friendly.
And good OpenGL ICD.
And of course 0 overdraw
(Those ugly BSP are useless with it :p )

PowerVR 1 and 2 boards had the same hardware HSR as the Kyro... so if you want a decent card for very cheap that does the HSR for you then you could grab a PowerVR2 board...
But I guess a GeForce 2 MX is the best budget card you can get these days.
