Best Linux distro ever!
I haven't personally used it, but Ubuntu seems to be a rather cool distro. It starts with Debian, fits all the most popular packages with it, set specific regular release dates, and promote a very strong community. You might want to check it out.

I considered Ubuntu, but I don't like Gnome. For me, KDE is a must.
Anyway, I just registered my Mepis copy for 10 USD. You don't get anything by registering, only that you support them, and I believe they more than deserve 10 USD.
Yeah, but this seems to be an ATI problem, not a Linux problem. ATI should do what Nvidia did, and provide binaries with their drivers.

Well, i think thats what you want (3d hardware acceleration) when youre talking about support in Linux, IMHO though

What I disliked about Ubuntu, is that it has 2 CDs (live and not-live - I tried the second and didnt like it), but you have to buy the full distro set (5 CDs???) and isnt freely available *AFAIK*. I live in a poor country, no credit card, etc.. - you get the picture, so, how am I supossed to get the full distro instead of the watered down 1 CD set...
Obviously, not like it would be hard getting needed packages for linux (not that it wasnt based on free GNU stuff), but I mean, Id rather get a full, freely distributed linux distro than something that requires $$$ to enjoy it at full, if you know what I mean

I think it is resonable for them to charge a feee, because it does cost some money to burn 5 CDs and ship them. Besides, like you said, you can download them (the applications) for free, off the net.

Yeah yeah, dont get me wrong, lack of drivers in Linux is a manufacturers fault, but, AFAIK, 3d acceleration can be enabled in most linux distros like SuSe and slackware, and be able to play doom3, UT 2004 (even half life 2 - or is it only through cenega??)
I like gentoo, but I definately wouldn't bash any one who doesn't. The install is much longer than any other distro I've used. The abundance of distros with unique philosophies is what I like about linux. There isn't just one way to do things, you choose whichever distro works for you.

Neither one suits my fancy, but hey, software is an evolving thing.
